  • Foreign currency hits Guess in Q2

    New York — Guess Inc. cited the negative impact of foreign currency fluctuations on earnings and sales in a difficult second quarter of fiscal 2016. Net earnings totaled $18.3 million, a 17% decrease compared to $22 million for the second quarter of fiscal 2015.

    Total net revenue decreased 10%, from $608.6 million to $546.3 million. Same-store sales, including e-commerce, dropped 2.8% in the United States and Canada. In one bright spot, top-line e-commerce sales grew 20%.

  • French court sides with Guess against Gucci in trademark suit

    Los Angeles - The Court of Paris has rejected every claim asserted by Gucci in a six-year trademark suit filed against Guess Inc., finding no trademark infringement, no counterfeiting, and no unfair competition. The court also completely denied Gucci’s request for $62.4 million in damages and, instead, Gucci was ordered by the court to pay Guess $34,000.

    The court also invalidated three of Gucci’s “G” community and international trademarks, meaning Gucci cannot claim exclusive use to those marks any longer.

  • Goya unveils state-of-the-art distribution center

    Goya Foods plans to open a state-of-the-art distribution center in Georgia to aid with the expansion of their business in the southeast region.

    Located at 4005 Haworth Pkwy., in McDonough, the facility will be officially inaugurated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday, Sept. 17, between 10:30 a.m. and 2p.m. McDonough’s Mayor Billy Copeland will be present for the ceremony.

  • Guess appoints Brooks Bros. veteran to board

    Los Angeles – The board of directors of Guess Inc. has appointed Joseph Gromek, increasing the number of directors to seven and bringing the total number of independent directors to five. Gromek will also serve on the Compensation and Nominating and Governance Committees of the board.

  • Competitive climate, not weather, is what ails Guess?

    Guess? may be a global brand, but worldwide diversification wasn’t enough to help the company avoid a fourth quarter sales decline and weakness at North American retail locations.

    Unlike other retailers, Guess? made no mention of horrible winter weather when it reported a decline in fourth quarter sales and profits that were especially evident in North America.
