Former Sam’s Club merchant Jason Reiser just got his second promotion in seven months at Family Dollar and now the newly anointed chief merchandising officer has to restore sales growth at the retailer’s 8,000 stores.

Virginia Beach, Va. — Divaris Real Estate has completed two retail leases totaling more than 21,000 sq. ft. in Richmond.

PetSmart renewed its lease for 19,734 sq. ft. at Parch Place at Short Pump, which is leased and managed by Divaris (www.divaris.com). Metro Commercial Real Estate represented the tenant.

Kamayan Restaurant leased 1,577 sq. ft. in the 360 West Shopping Center, which Divaris leases and manages. The Filipino restaurant joins Rite Aid, AutoZone, Dollar General, Subway, Jackson Hewitt and Radio Shack.

A record 700 new Dollar General stores are slated to open in 2014, the company announced Thursday morning after reporting third-quarter results and tempering its full-year sales forecast.

Same-stores sales at Dollar General increased 4.4% and total sales increased 10.5% to $4.38 billion during the third quarter ended Nov. 1. Profits increase 14% to $237 million from $208 million and earnings per share increased 19% to 74 cents from 62 cents.

Dollar General has announced that Raj Agrawal and Adrian Jones have resigned their spots in the company’s board of directors, effective Dec. 5. Agrawal, a member of KKR & Co., and Jones, a managing director at Goldman, Sachs & Co., have served as directors of Dollar General since 2007.

Goodlettsville, Tenn. — Dollar General on Monday named Todd Vasos as COO with responsibility for store operations, merchandising and supply chain. The company also said David D'Arezzo has joined the chain as executive VP and chief merchandising officer.

City of Commerce, Calif. — 99¢ Only Stores has leased 18,728 sq. ft. in Fairmeadows Shopping Center on East Camp Wisdom Road in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The Fairmeadows tenant line-up includes Dollar

General, Popeye’s, Firestone and Dental Republic. The Weitzman Group, the exclusive leasing agent for the center, handled negotiations for the landlord.

A desire to improve operational efficiency and capitalize on scale were cited as reasons for several senior level executive moves at Dollar General.

The retailer recently surpassed 11,000 units and chairman and CEO Rick Dreiling said the enhanced management structure involving Todd Vasos and David D’Arezzo would align the company for continued future growth.
