  • Dick’s suspends sales of certain type of ‘modern sporting rifles’

    New York -- Dick's Sporting Goods said it has removed all guns from its store nearest to Newtown, Conn., and is suspending the sale of certain kinds of semi-automatic rifles from its chains nationwide.

    In a statement, the retailer said the move was made out of respect for the victims and families of last week's Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

  • Study: Most retailers offering mobile services for shoppers

    Chicago — The overwhelming majority of retailers offer some kind of service for mobile shoppers, and one national retail pharmacy chain was named among those leading the way, according to a new study.

    Digital marketing and e-commerce company Acquity Group released results of a report showing that 82% of retailers have a mobile-optimized site, 72% have a mobile or tablet app, and 66% have both. Most of them, 88%, use basic mobile capabilities like shopping carts, while 85% use featured products, 63% use customer reviews, and 54% use contact forms.

  • Casto, St. Joe, SRA team to develop Pier Park North

    Panama City Beach, Fla. -- The St. Joe Co., together with Casto and Strategic Retail Advisors, announced a joint venture to develop Pier Park North, a 390,000-sq.-ft. shopping center located across from Pier Park Lifestyle Center in Panama City Beach, Fla.

    Confirmed retailers include Dick’s Sporting Goods, Michaels, Pier 1 Imports and Kirkland’s. Pier Park North anticipates opening in spring 2014.

  • Dick’s faces new golf competitor

    ROSWELL, Ga. — Dick’s Sporting Goods is looking at increased competition in its core Northeastern markets as PGA Tour Superstore prepares for the grand opening of its first retail location in Paramus, N.J.

    The 57,000-sq.-ft. store will open its doors Wed., Nov. 21, and offer a wide selection of golf merchandise and apparel, including more than 15,000 golf clubs and 10,000 pairs of shoes for every level of golf and tennis enthusiast.

  • Dick’s Sporting Goods debuts sweepstakes, online promotion

    PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Dick’s Sporting Goods has announced its first-ever "Get Winter Ready" consumer promotion.

    Dick’s has teamed up with The North Face and Columbia Sportswear as part of the program's sweepstakes, and will be giving away two one-of-kind prize packages. One includes a chance to join professional skier Tom Wallisch at the Winter X Games in Aspen, Colo., and the other offers a VIP experience at the 2013 FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup in Park City, Utah.

  • Dick’s Sporting Goods announces three new store opening

    New York -- Dick's Sporting Goods Inc. opened three stores, including one relocated store, on Nov. 7. Of the two new stores, one was located at Stoneridge Village, Jefferson City, Mo.; and the other at Spokane Valley Mall, Spokane, Wash. The retailer relocated its N. Springboro Pike store to Dayton Mall, Dayton, Ohio.

    In October, Dick’s celebrated the opening of 17 stores throughout the United States.

     

  • Dick's launches winter coat trade-in program

    PITTSBURGH — Dick's Sporting Goods has launched its first-ever winter coat trade-in event.

    From Oct. 21 through Oct. 27, customers can donate their gently-worn winter coats at their local Dick's store. Donated coats will then be distributed in the United States to those in need through a partnership with World Vision.

  • Celliant brings textile technology to Dick's

    LOS ANGELES — Celliant, a maker of textile technology for apparel, has partnered with Dick's Sporting Goods to launch a new line of Koppen men's and women's baselayers, which features Celliant technology and is available exclusively at Dick's Sporting Goods.
