  • Nordstrom Rack to open its first South Carolina store

    Seattle -- Nordstrom plans to open a Nordstrom Rack at Magnolia Park in Greenville, S.C. The approximately 32,000-sq.-ft. store is scheduled to open in fall 2014.  Magnolia Park is being developed by Menin Development.   

    The Magnolia Park Nordstrom Rack will be the company's first location in South Carolina.

  • October same-store sales improve across verticals

    New York – Retailers across a variety of verticals reported improved same-store sales during October 2013, compared to the same month in the previous year. Even embattled department store retailer J.C. Penney saw its same-store sales grow for the first time since December 2011, and specialty and apparel retail conglomerate L Brands and discount club retailer PriceSmart reported particularly impressive same-store sales results.

  • Report: Costco cooperates with DEA

    Issaquah, Wash. – Costco Wholesale Corporation is reportedly cooperating with the U.S, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in an ongoing investigation of prescriptions for controlled substances. According to Reuters, the DEA served Costco with warrants and subpoenas related to the investigation.

    Costco announced its cooperation in an SEC filing and has made no other public comment. The DEA has been investigating pharmacy chains and distributors across the country in regard to prescription drug misuse and abuse.

    Changes in foreign exchange rates had a negative impact on Costco’s comparable store sales for the fourth quarter ended Sept. 1, but the wholesaler still reported increases in both its U.S. and international markets.

    The company’s comparable sales for the quarter increased 5%. U.S. comparable store sales increased 5% for the quarter, while international comparable store sales increased 4%.
