  • Ashley Furniture opens 500th store; 50 more due in 2014

    Arcadia, Wis. -- Ashley Furniture HomeStore, the largest furniture retailer in the U.S., celebrated the opening of its 500th store in Longview, Texas, on Feb. 21. It is the chain’s 48th store in the Lone Star state.

    The company, whose sales exceeded $3 billion in 2013, has 50 additional HomeStore openings on tap in 2014.

  • Sacramento Sam’s Club morphs into Burlington Coat Factory

    Colton, Calif. — The Hodgdon Group, a brokerage, development, construction and project management firm, has converted a former Sam’s Club in Sacramento into a 60,000-sq.-ft/ Burlington Coat Factory.

    The new store opened last week. Hodgdon Group Realty and CBRE Sacramento represented the investor in the acquisition of the Sam’s Club building, as well as the landlord in the lease transaction. Retail West Inc. represented Burlington Coat Factory. An additional tenant has leased the remaining space and plans to open soon.

  • Re-Inventing Power Centers

    Across America, big-box centers are powering back up

    Power centers have proven themselves to be a resilient asset class in recent years. First the recession cut into business. Then e-commerce leveled some of their big-box tenants, hurt others and ignited a downsizing trend.

    Yet research from Washington, D.C.-based CoStar Group shows that only 2% of power centers have vacancy rates of 40% or higher and probably won’t recover. Another 6% have vacancy rates of 20% to 40% and are in serious condition but may recover.

  • Mid-America signs 68,000+ sq. ft. of home furnishings stores in Illinois

    Oakbrook Terrace, Ill. -- Mid-America Asset Management said it has signed three furniture/home décor stores to retail locations in Chicago’s suburbs of Oak Brook and McHenry as well as downstate in Bloomington, Ill.

    Ashley Furniture signed a lease for 31,573 sq. ft. at Colonial Plaza in Bloomington, Ill., with plans to open in spring 2013. Ashley Furniture will co-anchor the 236,460-sq.-ft. center along with Kmart and OfficeMax.

  • Hodgdon Group completes 15th retail project for Ashley Furniture

    Colton, Calif. -- The Hodgdon Group announced that it has completed construction of the conversion of a former Babies "R" Us building at Eastland Center in West Covina, Calif., for the opening of an Ashley Furniture HomeStore on March 15.

    Hodgdon Group's HMC Construction handled all entitlements and served as the design-build contractor for the major renovation of the 42,000-sq.-ft. freestanding building. The West Covina location, in Eastland Center, represents the 15th Ashley Furniture HomeStore to be completed by the Hodgdon Group.

  • Fairlawn Town Centre sold to new ownership

    Bryn Mawr, Pa. -- WP Realty and Angelo, Gordon & Co. announced Tuesday the sale of Fairlawn Town Centre located in Fairlawn, Ohio.
     
    Fairlawn is located just west of Akron; Fairlawn Town Centre is a 447,037-sq.-ft. community shopping center anchored by Giant Eagle, Target (separately owned), Home Goods, Pet Supplies Plus, Ashley Furniture and Marc’s. In-line retail tenants include U.S. Post Office, Chuck E. Cheese, Panera Bread, GNC, Subway and RadioShack.

  • Ashley Furniture, Pet Supplies Plus to open at Fairlawn Town Centre

    Fairlawn, Ohio -- Charter Realty & Development announced it has arranged -- in conjunction with Julius Feinblum Real Estate -- for a 27,587-sq.-ft. lease for Ashley Furniture and an 11,284-sq.-ft. lease for Pet Supplies Plus in the Fairlawn Town Centre in Fairlawn, Ohio.

    The shopping center is anchored by Target, Home Goods, Giant Eagle, Marc’s and USPS.
