  • American Eagle to sponsor events for Child Abuse Prevention Month

    PITTSBURGH -- KidsVoice, an organization which advocates for abused, neglected and at-risk children, announced that American Eagle Outfitters will be the presenting sponsor for its events during Child Abuse Prevention Month, which include Kitetails & Cocktails on April 28 and Kites for Kids on April 30. Both events will take place at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium.

  • Urban Retail named manager for Shawnee Mall and Brazos Mall

    Chicago -- Urban Retail Properties LLC said it has been awarded the contract by Five Mile Capital Partners LLC to provide management and leasing services for Shawnee Mall located in Shawnee, Okla., and Brazos Mall in Lake Jackson, Texas, effective immediately.

    Shawnee Mall is a one-level enclosed regional shopping center anchored by Dillard’s, Sears and J.C. Penney. The tenant line-up includes a newly remodeled Jones Theatres Movies Six, Old Navy, Ross Dress For Less, Buffalo Wild Wings and over 70 specialty stores.

  • CEO at AEO to go

    PITTSBURGH – Shortly after reporting a 16% increase in continuing operations for its fourth quarter ended Jan. 29, American Eagle Outfitters, announced that its CEO, James O’Donnell, has informed the board of directors of his intention to retire, and the company has initiated a succession process to be jointly led by O’Donnell and the board. American Eagle said O’Donnell will continue with the company as CEO until a successor is named and through an orderly transition period.

  • February sales better than expected; Limited and Zumiez top apparel segment

    New York City -- Many retailers reported better-than-expected sales in February amid milder mid-month temperatures in many parts of the country. But some warned of a weaker March due the timing of the Easter holiday. Analysts also cautioned that rising fuel prices may damper consumer spending going forward.

    The Thomson Reuters Same-Store Sales Index rose 4.2% in February, topping estimates for a 3.6% increase, and also rising higher than in the year-ago period.

  • A.E.O. announces support of FEED Foundation

    PITTSBURGH -- American Eagle Outfittersannounced a campaign in partnership with FEED Projects to launch a new line available at American Eagle Outfitters stores and online that will benefit the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. American Eagle Outfitters is now offering FEED Guatemala bags in more than 400 of its stores across the country. The bags are also available at www.ae.com.

  • Three key teen retailers to stop reporting monthly sales

    New York City -- Teen retailers Abercrombie & Fitch Co., Aeropostale and American Eagle Outfitters will stop reporting monthly sales after Thursday.

    Many retail executives say reporting sales from stores open at least a year puts too much focus on short-term results. 
     

  • Former AEO exec to take on CEO role at Wet Seal

    Foothill Ranch, Calif. -- Specialty apparel retailer Wet Seal announced that it has entered into an employment contract with Susan McGalla to serve as its new CEO through Aug. 8, 2014. McGalla will assume her position as CEO on Jan. 18. Ed Thomas will remain as interim CEO until Jan. 18, and thereafter will remain employed by the company until Feb. 8, to assist with transition.
