  • Peapod and Giant Food Stores open new fulfillment center

    New York -- Online food retailer Peapod and Giant Food Stores have opened a new fulfillment center in Coopersburg, Pa.

    "Peapod by Giant has seen exciting growth in the Philadelphia area and we are delighted to partner with our sister grocer, Peapod, to expand service to additional ZIP codes in the Giant trade area," said Rick Herring, president.   • IDC Retail Insights’ Leslie Hand named Top Retail Influencer

    Framingham, Mass. – IDC Retail Insights research director Leslie Hand has been named to the 2013 Top 50 Retail Influencers list developed by point-of-sale, inventory and customer loyalty software provider Vend. Hand has spent the last 25-plus years in the retail technology industry, and prior to joining IDC Retail Insights was the director of global RIFD strategy for Ahold.

  • Bi-Lo Holdings to retire Sweetbay and Reid’s banners

    Bi-Lo and Winn-Dixie parent Bi-Lo Holdings plans to retire the Sweetbay and Reid’s banners. The company will begin converting all Sweetbay stores to the Winn-Dixie name and Reid's stores to Bi-Lo in 2014, and confirmed the Harveys banner would remain intact.

    The grocery retailer acquired all three banners from Brussels, Belgium-based Delhaize Group last May.

  • Bi-Lo Holdings to continue Harveys banner, retire Sweetbay and Reid’s

    Jacksonville, Fla. -- Bi-Lo and Winn-Dixie parent Bi-Lo Holdings said it would begin in 2014 the process of converting all Sweetbay stores to the Winn-Dixie name and Reid's stores to Bi-Lo, but that the Harveys banner would remain intact.

    The grocery retailer acquired all three banners from Brussels, Belgium-based Delhaize Group last May.

  • Delhaize Europe CEO announces resignation

    The CEO of Delhaize Group's European division has resigned, effective Oct. 31, according to the Belgian supermarket operator.

    Delhaize said Stefan Descheemaeker had decided to resign as CEO of Delhaize Europe, though the company did not give a reason. Delhaize said that as a result of Descheemaeker's departure, Delhaize Group EVP and Delhaize Group Southeast Europe and Asia CEO Kostas Macheras would report directly to group CEO Pierre-Olivier Beckers, as would Delhaize Belgium CEO Dirk Van den Berghe, effective Nov. 1.

  • Bi-Lo, Winn-Dixie parent files for IPO

    New York -- The parent company of Bi-Lo and Winn-Dixie supermarkets, Southeaster Grocers, has filed for an initial public offering.  

    The shares are expected to be offered by Southeastern Grocers, and the number of shares to be offered and the price range for the offering have not yet been determined.
