  • Gap to end controversial scheduling practice

    San Francisco — Gap Inc. is the latest retailer to say it will cease the practice of assigning store employees on-call shifts with little advance notice.

    Gap joins other chains such as Abercrombie & Fitch and Victoria’s Secret in pledging to eliminate the practice from its stores.

  • Hollister helps lift profit at Abercrombie

    Efforts to change its merchandising and branding are paying off for Abercrombie & Fitch Co., which reported a smaller profit and revenue loss than expected in the second quarter.

    Abercrombie reported a net loss of $810,000, compared to net income of $12.9 million the same quarter a year earlier. Revenue fell 9% to $817.8 million from $890.6 million. Total company ame-store sales dropped 4%. Abercrombie same-store sales fell 7% and Hollister same-store sales fell 1%, below Wall Street’s expected rate of decline.

    The new brand leadership team includes the following executives:

    • Stacie Beaver, general manager for Abercrombie Womens. Having held a variety of senior positions at Abercrombie for more than 15 years, Beaver most recently led the Bottoms business for men and women across Hollister and Abercrobmie.
