    This year's Ikea Foundation Soft Toys for Education campaign, which ran from Nov. 1 through Dec. 26, raised over $1.4 million in the U.S. alone through soft toys, Ikea Family children's books and card games sales.

    The Lone Star State is going to get its fourth Ikea.

    The City Council of Grand Prairie, Texas, has approved Ikea’s plans to build a second store in the Dallas-Fort Worth-area. Pending remaining approvals and permits, construction of Ikea Grand Prairie could begin fall 2016, with an opening in fall 2017. It will be the company’s fourth store in the state of Texas.

    Starbucks is the number one retailer employer in the United States when it comes to fostering a happy workplace.

    That’s according to a survey by CareerBliss, which analyzed the key factors that impact workplace happiness. Ace Hardware, Ikea, Apple and Barnes & Noble round out the CareerBliss top five.

    “The employee reviews on CareerBliss rank Starbucks as the number one retail employer in the United States when it comes to employee happiness,” said Heidi Golledge, co-founder of CareerBliss.

    Ikea’s U.S. expansion to bring it to another new market

    Ikea is looking to open its first store in the state of Indiana.

    The home furnishings giant is submitting plans to the City of Fishers, Indiana, to open a 296,000-sq.-ft. store 15 miles northwest of downtown Indianapolis.

    Pending approvals, construction of the new Ikea could begin as early as summer 2016, with an opening in fall 2017.

  • Ikea takes sunny approach to Vegas store energy

    Ikea plans to install a solar energy system atop its Las Vegas store, opening summer 2016.

    Panel installation will begin this winter, with completion expected in spring for what Ikea says will be the largest single-use rooftop solar array by a retailer in the state of Nevada. The 351,000-sq.-ft. future Ikea Las Vegas, and 1,300 parking spaces, currently is under construction.

  • Top retailers back Obama climate change pledge

    Ikea and Best Buy are among the top retailers supporting a U.S.-sponsored pledge to act on combating climate change.

    President Barack Obama met with a group of business leaders Monday at the White House to announce the signatories of the American Business Act on Climate Pledge.

    "The perception is that this is an environmental issue, it's for tree-huggers, and that hard-headed business people either don't care about it or see it as a conflict with their bottom lines," Obama said.

    Ikea wants to open a second store in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

    The company is submitting plans to the City of Grand Prairie, Texas, for a 293,000-sq.-ft. store. It would be the Swedish company’s fourth location In Texas.

    Pending approvals, construction of Ikea Grand Prairie could begin summer 2016, with an opening in fall 2017.
