    On Sept. 11, Minsok Pak will step into the role of executive VP, chief strategy and innovation officer, for Target Corp.    In the Q&A below, posted on Target's website, the retailer spoke with Pak about his past work with consumer brands, and the challenges facing retail today.   
  • Head of international to leave Hudson's Bay

    An 11-year veteran of Canadian department store giant HBC is stepping down.    HBC, whose banners include Hudson's Bay, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Lord & Taylor, announced that Don Watros, president of HBC International, has made the decision to leave, effective September 29, 2017. The company did not name a successor.   
  • J. Crew names finance head amid ongoing sales decline

    J.Crew Group named an internal associate as CFO as the retailer continues to struggle to turn around its namesake brand.   The retailer announced that Vincent Zanna, previously senior VP of finance and treasurer, has been promoted to CFO and treasurer, effective immediately. He will continue to report to Michael Nicholson, who was previously CFO and COO, and now serves as president and COO.    
  • Target names new strategy and innovation chief

    Target Corp. has tapped a McKinsey & Company veteran to head up its innovation efforts.    The retailer appointed Minsok Pak as executive VP, chief strategy and innovation officer. He replaces Casey Carl, who left the company in May.   
  • eBay exec to head up Macy's brand

    In a move that reflects the increased prominence of digital in traditional retail operations, Macy's has hired a senior eBay executive as president of its namesake brand.    Hal Lawton has been named president of Macy’s, effective Sept. 8, 2017. He will be responsible for all aspects of the Macy’s brand, including merchandising, marketing, stores, operations, technology, and consumer insights and analytics. Lawton will report to CEO Jeff Gennette, who previously held the role before becoming chief executive in March. 
  • H&R Block taps former Target and Uber exec as CEO

    The man who resigned from the number two position at Uber after six months on the job has been named chief executive of the nation's largest tax preparer.   H&R Block named Jeffrey J. Jones II president and CEO, effective Oct. 9, 2017. He will succeed Tom Gerke, who will continue to serve as interim president and CEO until then. Gerke will remain general counsel and chief administrative officer.  
  • Key exec departs Francesca's Holdings

    Francesca's Holdings Corp. is on the hunt for a new chief merchant.   The apparel retailer announced that Laurie Hummel, executive VP and chief merchandising officer, has left the company. It did not provide a reason for her departure.    Hummel joined Francesca's in November 2015. Previously, she served two years as senior VP and divisional merchandise manager at Kohl’s. Before that, she was with State Stores.   
  • Hudson's Bay Co. taps former Penney exec as CFO

    The parent company of Hudson's Bay, Lord & Taylor and Saks Fifth Avenue has appointed a 25-year retail veteran as its new finance head.   HBC named Edward Record as CFO, effective August 28, 2017. He succeeds Paul Beesley, who, as previously announced is leaving HBC.   Record joins HBC after more than three years as CFO of J. C. Penney Company. In July, he announced he was stepping down from the company to "pursue other interests."
