C-Suite Moves: August update

Here are the major C-suite changes that occurred in August, in the order they were announced. (All changes have already taken effect unless otherwise noted.)

  • Mike Motz has been appointed as CEO of Walgreens. His appointment followed the closing of Sycamore Partners’s $10 billion acquisition of Walgreens Boots Alliance. With the closing of the deal, Walgreens is now operating as a private standalone company. Most recently, Motz was CEO of Staples U.S. Retail, Before that, he spent 14 years at Canada’s Shoppers Drug Mart.
  • Lululemon Athletica tapped Ranju Das for the newly created role of chief AI and technology officer. Most recently, he served as CEO and founder of Swan AI Studios, an AI-centered firm focused on scaling companies in the healthcare and biotech sectors.
  • Discount grocer Save A Lot promoted COO Bill Mayo to CEO, succeeding Fred Boehler stepped back from management of day-to-day operations. Prior to Save A Lot, which he joined in 2024, Mayo spent 29 years at Wakefern Food Corporation, the largest retailer-owned cooperative in the U.S.
  • Donny Lau has been named as executive VP and CFO of Dollar General, effective Oct. 20, succeeding Kelly Dilts. Lau is returning to the discounter after serving as the CFO of Zaxby’s Franchising LLC since July 2023. From 2017 to 2023, Lau held a variety of financial positions at Dollar General
  • Levi Strauss & Co. appointed Chris Callieri as senior VP and chief supply chain officer, effective Sept. 15.  He joins the company Victoria’s Secret & Co., where he spent nearly three years as chief supply chain officer.

  • Target Corp. tapped 20-year company veteran Michael Fiddelke, who currently serves as COO, to take the reins as CEO as of Feb. 1, 2026. He will succeed Brian Cornell, who has held the chief executive role since 2014 and will transition to executive chair of the board.
  • Steven Dee was named chief technology officer at Kohl’s. Most recently, he served as the global chief information and technology officer at cosmetic and haircare brand Rodan + Fields. Before that, he spent nearly six years at Nike in two positions focused on digital technology.
  • The Vitamin Shoppe appointed Mike Forbes to the newly created role of  chief strategy officer. Most recently, he served as co-CEO of vitamin and supplements company MaryRuth Organics.
  • Academy Sports + Outdoors named Brandy Treadway as executive VP, chief legal officer and corporate secretary. Most recently, she served as senior VP, chief legal officer and corporate secretary for RumbleOn, a buy-sell-trade platform for powersports vehicles.
  • Jesica Duarte was appointed executive VP and chief commercial officer of Petsmart. Most recently, she spent four years at Albertsons Companies in a variety of roles. She also served more than 11 years at Walmart, where she held several VP positions.
