Walmart’s U.S. chief marketing officer is stepping down for a new opportunity — at Sam’s Club.
Tony Rogers has been named chief member officer, a newly created role at Walmart’s wholesale club banner, Sam’s Club. He will begin his new role at the end of July. A new marketing chief at Walmart has not been named, according to
Ad Age.
Rogers will report to Jamie Iannone, CEO of SamsClub.com, and executive VP of membership and technology, according to
Talk Business & Politics.
Rogers began his career at Walmart in 2005, as senior director of brand strategy. He was later named VP of advertising, and three years later became senior VP of marketing. In 2014, he became chief marketing officer for Walmart China, and was named chief marketing officer for Walmart U.S. in 2016, according to LinkedIn.
He has also held various marketing positions at companies including PepsiCo, Gateway Computer, and The Pillsbury Company. Before moving over to marketing, Rogers was a senior financial analyst at Brinker International and a senior auditor at KPMG Audit.
During his tenure as Walmart U.S.’s marketing chief, Rogers spear-headed the consolidation of the company’s physical stores and e-commerce marketing teams into a single unit that was distributed across three cities, according to
Ad Age.In addition to focusing on membership insights and offerings, Rogers is eyeing an opportunity to increase the company’s e-commerce business, a move that will help the Sam’s Club better compete with Costco and Amazon,
