  • TechBytes: Two Pros and Three Cons of TGI Friday’s ‘Mobile Mistletoe’ Promotion

    TGI Fridays has been getting a lot of attention for its holiday “Mobile Mistletoe” promotion, and not all of it has been for the right reasons. While Mobile Mistletoe is a great concept in omnichannel marketing and customer engagement, some flaws in the actual execution suggest TGI Fridays should have spent more time refining it before launch.  
  • Target aims at last-minute shoppers

    Target Corp. is targeting last-minute holiday shoppers by offering promotions to customers in need of pickup or delivery, and to users of the retailer's Cartwheel app.

    Cartwheel users will get 50% off a different toy every day until Dec. 24. Also, from now until Christmas, Cartwheel will feature more than 150 offers at 25% off or more.

    Orders placed at Target.com through Dec. 20 can still be delivered by Christmas. After Saturday, Customers can use Target’s Store Pickup option.

  • Heroes ring in the holidays at Mall of America

    More than 3,200 military members, veterans and their families attended the Holiday for Heroes event at Mall of America.

    The mall, working with Beyond the Yellow Ribbon, invited attendees to enjoy unlimited rides at Nickelodeon Universe, free breakfast at Hard Rock Cafe, a military resource fair, visits with Santa, an ugly sweater photo booth and prizes valued at more than $200.

    This is the first year Mall of America has hosted Holiday for Heroes.

  • Banana Republic targets last-minute holiday shoppers

    San Francisco – Some people complain about customers who put off holiday shopping till the last minute, but Banana Republic is welcoming them with open arms. Banana Republic is offering “The Procrastinators Event,” a special promotion for last-minute shoppers, from Dec. 17-22.   
  • Study – Restaurant revenue drops post-Thanksgiving

    San Francisco – In the last several years, restaurant revenue declined 22 to 45% during the post-Thanksgiving holiday period. According to a study across quick-serve, fast casual, and fine dining chains by customer engagement solutions provider Thanx Media Inc., the average restaurant experienced a 27% revenue decline in December, as compared to that year's monthly average.   
  • Banana Republic shows procrastinators some love

    Banana Republic is taking an innovative approach to last-minute holiday shoppers this year: top-notch perks and special discounts for procrastinators.

    The company will be offering a “Procrastinators Event,” a special promotion for last-minute shoppers, from Dec. 17-22.

  • Survey – More than half of holiday shoppers finish last-minute

    Austin, Texas - More than half (56%) of Christmas shoppers surveyed typically have gifts left to purchase by the time "Panic Saturday,” the last Saturday to shop for holiday gifts before Christmas (also referred to as "Super Saturday"), rolls around. According to a new consumer survey from digital offers site RetailMeNot, nearly one in 5 (18%) Christmas shoppers surveyed admit that they've actually waited until the Saturday before Christmas to begin shopping for presents.  
  • Study – Retail sector to add 30,000 jobs by end of year

    San Leandro, Calif. - The U.S. retail sector will add nearly 30,000 jobs through the end of December as the country heads into a strong holiday shopping season. According to a study from HR services provider TriNet, recent job growth in the U.S. retail sector is built on positive consumer confidence, increasing retail spending, and positive job market outlook.
