  • NRF: St. Patrick’s Day spending set to rise

    Washington, D.C. -- Consumers are opening up their pocketbooks for St. Patrick’s Day, according to the National Retail Federation’s St. Patrick’s Day Spending Survey.

    The survey, conducted by Prosper Insights and Analytics, finds that nearly 127 million Americans are planning to celebrate the traditional Irish holiday and will spend an average of $36.52 on green garb, festive food and more, compared to $35.78 last year.

  • Los Angeles-area Kohl’s sells for $22 million

    Irvine, Calif. -- Hanley Investment Group announced that Ed Hanley, Kevin Fryman and Eric Wohl negotiated the sale of an 88,000-sq.-ft. Kohl's Department Store, located in the Los Angeles area. The single-tenant triple-net leased property sold for $21,950,000, representing a historic national record-breaking low cap rate of 4.80%. 



  • Study: POS technology alive and well; North American shipments up 5%

    Franklin, Tenn. – The boring old POS terminal may not be so boring after all. According to new research from IHL Group, North American POS shipments grew by 5.2% year-over-year in 2014, a time when many were calling for a reduction in shipments due to mobile.

    New York -- Retailers who take a holistic approach to measuring the benefits of new store designs are most successful in accurately quantifying the bottom-line results, according to new research from EWI Worldwide and A.R.E. (the Association for Retail Environments).

  • Growth accelerating at Steinmart

    Off-price department store operator Steinmart is looking to capitalize on favorable business trends this year with an aggressive expansion plan that will see the company add 11 new stores.

    The Jacksonville, Fl.,-based operator of 270 stores had indicated last fall it would open 10 new stores this year, but after reporting better than expected sales results the growth target was increased by one location. Steinmart opened nine new stores last year as part of a renewed commitment to physical expansion.

  • Survey: Three in 10 consumers have chip-based credit cards

    Austin, Texas - The credit card industry is lagging behind its own deadline to get more secure microchip-enabled credit cards into consumers’ wallets by October 2015. According to a new survey from CredtCards.com, just three out of every 10 U.S. credit cardholders have a chip card.

    The adoption rate is significantly higher among high net worth cardholders, but at 49%, it still means more than half of the richest Americans ($100,000 or more in investable assets) lack chip-based card security.

  • Survey: Few consumers report recent bad retail experience

    Waban, Mass. – In a sign that retailer efforts to enhance customer service may be working, few consumers report having a bad experience with a retailer in the past six months. According to a new Temkin Group report, “What Happens After a Good or Bad Experience, 2015,” only 4% of consumers report having a bad experience with a retailer.

    Six retailers are at a 1% reporting level for bad customer experience: True Value, Costco, Bed Bath & Beyond, Ace Hardware, Gap, and Staples.

  • Study: Millennials help boost casual fashion sales

    Port Washington, N.Y. – The affinity of Millennial consumers for casual and activewear has resulted in a small boost in apparel, footwear and accessories sales. U.S. consumers spent $323 billion on apparel, footwear, and accessories in 2014, according to The NPD Group.

    The 1% increase compared to 2013, resulting in an additional $2 billion in sales, was driven primarily by growth in sales of activewear, athletic performance footwear, and bags.
