  • Bed Bath & Beyond opens in California, Md.

    Bethesda, Md. — Bed Bath & Beyond has opened a new 23,400-sq.-ft. store at Wildwood Shopping Center in California, Md. This is the retailer’s 19th store in Maryland. J.C. Penney and Belk’s anchor the 289,000-sq.-ft. center. Sax Realty (www.saxrealty.com) represented Bed Bath & Beyond in the transaction. Scheer Partners represented the landlord.

  • Gymboree Q1 net loss grows; plans 50 new stores

    San Francisco — Lower gross profits and higher pretax losses helped drive The Gymboree Corp.’s net loss to $15 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2014, up from $2.85 million a year earlier. The retailer plans to open 50 new stores and close 25-30 existing stores during the fiscal year.

    Net sales shrank 7% to $272 million from $292.78 million. Same-store sales dropped 10%. Gymboree plans to open new stores fairly evenly across its brands, and will spend $35-$40 million in capital expenditures during fiscal 2014.

     

  • City Furniture expands in Florida

    Taramac, Fla. — Furniture retailer City Furniture is completing a $17.5 realignment of its South Florida retail network with the opening of a new 34,000-sq.-ft. Ashley Furniture HomeStore in Cutler Bay, Florida. This location is adjacent to a 56,000-sq.-ft. City Furniture showroom that opened in October 2013, creating a 90,000-sq.-ft. superstore.

  • Warby Parker to open 1950s classroom-styled store in Dallas

    New York — Online eyewear retailer is opening its sixth retail location, a 1,050-sq.-ft. store in Dallas. It will open on June 18.

  • Baker Katz sells Cleveland, Texas, shopping center

    Cleveland, Texas — Baker Katz has sold the 11,438-sq.-ft. Cleveland Shopping Center in Cleveland, Texas. Baker Katz facilitated the transaction with a local investor. Financial details remain private.

  • lululemon to Town Center of Virginia Beach

    Virginia Beach, Va. — lululemon has leased a 3,200-sq.-ft. store at the Town Center of Virginia Beach. Like recently announced Anthropologie and Free People, lululemon will be the first and only store of its kind to open in Hampton roads, Virginia. In addition, Destination Maternity and It’s Sugar recently opened at The Town Center. lululemon plans to open during the fourth quarter of this year.

  • Dunkin’ Donuts details California expansion

    Canton, Mass. — Dunkin’ Donuts has filed for permits to open its first traditional restaurants in California. The new restaurants are planned for Downey, Long Beach, Modesto, Santa Monica and Whittier.

  • Report: Chico’s considers going private

    Fort Myers, Fla. — Chico’s FAS Inc. is reportedly considering taking itself private. According to Financial Times, the women’s apparel retailer has been holding talks with several private equity firms in recent weeks.
