  • Redevelopment Coup

    WinCo Foods has agreed to develop an 85,000-sq.-ft. modern grocery store at Old Orchard Village East in Lewisville, Texas.

    WinCo Foods, founded in Idaho in 1967, is an employee-owned discount grocery that operates 87 stores and plans to expand into Dallas-Fort Worth metro region with 15 new stores over the next several years.

    The deal will take the Old Orchard Village East center from 60% leased to 100% leased and make it possible to carry out a $20 million transformational redevelopment.

  • Five Below more than doubles Q2 profit; on track to open 60 stores

    Philadelphia -- Five Below saw net income surge to $4.1 million for the quarter ended August 3, up from $1.2 million in the year-ago period. Sales climbed 34.9% to $117.1 million from $86.8 million, and same-store sales increased 6.6%. The company had, by the quarter’s end, opened 32 of its previously announced 60 new stores on tap for 2013.

  • Fresh Market bolsters real estate leadership

    GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Fresh Market has appointed Randall A. Young as the company’s SVP of real estate and development, effective Sept. 30. 

    Young will oversee the company's real estate and development functions, including market strategy development, site selection, store design, construction, store relocations and renovations.

  • Pep Boys expands footprint in So-Cal

    PHILADELPHIA — Leading automotive aftermarket service and retail chain the Pep Boys has acquired 17 discount tire centers in Southern California from AKH Company, Inc.

    The tire centers are located throughout the greater Los Angeles market, from Bakersfield to Orange County. They will re-open on September 12 under the Pep Boys banner and provide full-service vehicle maintenance and repair, including brand-name and private-label replacement tires.

  • Nordstrom Rack sets 2014 opening in Riverside, Calif.

    Seattle -- Nordstrom plans to Nordstrom Rack at Riverside Plaza in Riverside, Calif. The approximately 45,000-sq.-ft. store will be the Rack's first location in Riverside County when it opens in spring 2014.

    Riverside Plaza is owned and managed by Vestar.

    "We are excited to have Nordstrom Rack as a tenant at Riverside Plaza," said Jeff Axtell, Vestar VP of acquisitions and development. "Nordstrom Rack is a premier retailer who will be a great complement to our existing tenants."

     

  • Zumiez Q2 profit doubles, opening 58 stores in 2013

    Lynnwood, Wash. -- Action sports retailer Zumiez reported net income of $4.7 million for the quarter ended Aug. 3, compared with $2.1 million a year earlier. Sales surged 16.9% to $157.9 million, and same-store sales edged up 0.9%.

  • Five Below to open 11 stores in Dallas

    Philadelphia -- Five Below will expand its presence in Texas by opening 11 stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth area on Sept. 12, 2013. The teen retailer’s entry into Dallas follows four successful store openings in Austin, completed in August of this year.

  • Perkins Restaurant & Bakery expanding in Iowa and Nebraska

    Memphis -- Perkins Restaurant & Bakery announced a six-unit franchise development agreement in Iowa and Nebraska over the next six years.  

    The expanded development of the Iowa/Nebraska area was signed with Perkins franchisee CyHawk Hospitality Inc., which operates six Perkins Restaurants and Bakeries — five in Iowa and another in Independence, Mo.  
     
    The first of the six additional units opened in July in Ankeny, Iowa, to be followed by a location in Norfolk, Neb., slated to open in September.
