  • Cinemark to renovate theatres at New Jersey center

    Cinemark and XD will be upgrading all 16 of its auditoriums at CooperTowne Center in Somerdale, New Jersey.    The renovated theaters will include electric-powered, oversized recliners, and movie-goers will be able to reserve them ahead of time via computer or smartphone. XD theaters feature wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling screen with enhanced JBL sound systems.  
  • Elion spruces up Jupiter center

    Following its success in renovating another center in the Florida town of Jupiter, Elion Partners had embarked on a renovation of Jupiter Reserve, which will be re-christened as Pennock Square.   Plans for the 43,172-sq.-ft. center include a cosmetic makeover to a more contemporary look, new signage, and parking and landscaping upgrades.    Elion’s re-do of the nearby Fresh Market Village inspired the effort.  
  • General Growth Properties is now officially ‘GGP’

    Though General Growth Properties has long been most commonly known as GGP in the retail industry, the big mall owner has now made it official.   Effective Jan. 27, the big mall owner with 126 properties in 40 states, officially changes its name to GGP. Founded in 1954 to develop grocery-anchored strip centers, GGP evolved into one of the largest providers of A-level mall space.  
  • Specialty apparel retailer files Chapter 11

    Limited Stores has taken another step in the liquidation process it started in December.   The women’s apparel retailer announced on Tuesday it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The chain also said it agreed to a "stalking horse" bid for its intellectual property and some related assets from an affiliate of private equity firm Sycamore Partners.     
  • Nordstrom to close Santa Ana mall store

    After nearly 30 years of doing business in the MainPlace Mall in Santa Ana, California, Nordstrom has announced it will be shuttering the location.  
  • Michigan Mall struggles to fill Macy’s hole

    The new owner of the 550,000-sq.-ft. Lakeview Square Mall in Battle Creek, Michigan, finds itself in a common quandary among property owners today -- launching an all-points search for retailers to fill the hole left by a closing Macy’s.  
  • Hughes buys Macy’s; will convert mall to open-air center

    The Howard Hughes Corporation announced it has purchased the 11.4-acre Macy’s store and parking lot at its Landmark Mall in Alexandria, Virginia, and will set about transforming the enclosed property into an open-air center.  
  • Closing time for The Limited stores

    Apparel retailer The Limited is out of the brick-and-mortar retail business.   The ailing chain, which has quietly been closing stores around the country for the past couple of weeks, announced the news with a short statement on its website on Friday, Jan. 6. The move was not unexpected. Limited has struggled amid increased competition from fast-fashion upstarts, both offline and online.
