  • Working for Target just became more fun

    Silicon Valley companies paved the way for corporate America to offer non-traditional workplace amenities and now Target has joined their ranks.

  • Family Dollar profit edges up in Q4; to open 500 stores in 2013

    Matthews, N.C. -- Family Dollar Stores reported Wednesday that net income for the quarter ended Aug. 25 inched up to $80.9 million, from $79.8 million in the same period last year. Results were impacted by an $11.5 million litigation charge stemming from the preliminary settlement of a lawsuit in New York.

    Sales for the quarter rose 10.8% to $2.36 billion, a record for the company, and same-store sales increased 5.4%.

  • Target ranks sixth in RT Top 100

    In case you missed it, Retailing Today published its annual Insights 2013 issue recently and while Target is currently the nation’s sixth largest retailer that position is likely to change in 2013.

    It is conceivable Target could become the nation’s fourth largest retailer by this time next year, overtaking both Home Depot and Walgreens.

  • Uniqlo to open first West Coast flagship in San Francisco

    SAN FRANCISCO — Fast Retailing will open its first West Coast Uniqlo flagship store in the Union Square neighborhood of San Francisco.

  • Meijer to hire 12,000 holiday associates

    Grand Rapids, Mich. -- Regional grocer Meijer said Tuesday it will hire 12,000 new employees in preparation for the 2012 holiday shopping season. Most positions will be part-time.

    According to Janet Emerson, executive VP of operations for Meijer, “Our goal is to deliver the best customer experience and the lowest prices, and as we continue to grow it's so important that we have the right levels of staff and the right people in those roles."

  • Lime Fresh Mexican Grill to open at Penn Quarter

    Washington, D.C. -- Douglas Development announced that Lime Fresh Mexican Grill will open a 2,000-sq.-ft. restaurant in the Douglas Development-owned property at 726 7th Street in Penn Quarter.

    The space is currently occupied by Potbelly Sandwich Works and is scheduled to open as Lime Fresh Mexican Grill in mid-2013.
     

     

  • DRA Advisors acquires Streets of Brentwood

    Dallas -- SRS Real Estate Partners said it represented Brentwood Specialty Center, LLC in the sale of The Streets of Brentwood to a partnership between New York City-based DRA Advisors and RED Development out of Kansas City.

  • Soma Intimates opens at Willow Grove Park

    Willow Grove, Pa. -- Philadelphia-based Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust said Monday that Soma Intimates recently opened at Willow Grove Park, in Willow Grove, Pa.

    The 2,369-sq.-ft. store will be joined by a newly formatted J.C. Penney opening this fall and featuring the retailer’s Shops format, along with the opening of accessory boutique Laila Rowe.

    Willow Grove Park is a three-level, 1.2 million-sq.-ft. regional shopping mall anchored by Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s, Sears and Nordstrom Rack.
