  • Levin Management awarded trio of new shopping center assignments

    North Plainfield, N.J. -- Levin Management announced it has been awarded three new leasing and management assignments totaling more than 1 million sq. ft. in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The properties include two grocery-anchored shopping centers and a regional mall.

  • Two proxy firms back Dollar Tree; Dollar General affirms efforts

    Chesapeake, Va. – In the latest scene from the continuingly unfolding saga of the battle for Family Dollar, two proxy investment firms have switched their recommendation for Family Dollar shareholders to accept and $8.5 billion bid from Dollar Tree, rather than a $9.1 billion bid from Dollar General. Glass Lewis & Co. and Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) both cited Dollar Tree’s bid as offering a greater likelihood of success, despite being lower.

  • Bob’s Discount Furniture to open DC to support store expansion in Chicago

    Manchester, Conn. -- Bob’s Discount Furniture has leased a 751,966-sq.-ft. warehouse and distribution building in Shorewood, Illinois, as it prepares to expand its growing retail furniture business into the Chicago area.

    Bob’s, the 14th-largest U.S. furniture chain, has opened nearly a dozen new stores across the East Coast and Mid-Atlantic regions during the past two years. But this new facility marks its first move into the Midwest.

  • PetSmart considered buying rival chain

    Phoenix – PetSmart Inc. considered but ultimately rejected attempting to buy an unidentified, privately held pet retail chain before agreeing to an $8.7 billion sale in December 2014. In an SEC filing, PetSmart disclosed it decided against the purchase after determining there could be competitive and antitrust issues.

    PetSmart also said 27 potential buyers showed interest in purchasing the company between August and October 2014, before PetSmart formally launched a bidding process.

  • Olive Garden, Longhorn Steakhouse, Joe’s Crab Shack open in Elmhurst

    Elmhurst, N.Y. --  Tom Rettaliata and Brian Schuster of Ripco Real Estate represented Darden Concepts and Ignite Restaurants in the lease of the site located between Queens Center Mall and the Long Island Expressway (I-495) in Elmhurst, Queens, New York. Olive Garden (8,297 sq. ft.), Longhorn Steakhouse (8,000 sq. ft.), and Joe’s Crab Shack (8,000 sq. ft.) now occupy a previously vacant location at the intersections of 92nd Street and 59th Avenue. All three restaurants face Queens Center.

  • Report: 20 states join Family Dollar probe

    Reuters is reporting a new complicating factor in the ongoing saga of efforts by Dollar Tree and Dollar General to buy Family Dollar.

    Some 20 state attorneys general have joined the federal antitrust investigation of competing bids by Dollar General Corp. and Dollar Tree Inc. to buy Family Dollar Stores Inc., a development that potentially complicates the companies' efforts to win U.S. approval for a deal.

  • Mid-America arranges sale of Underwood Crossings

    Milwaukee -- Mid-America Real Estate Corporation’s Investment Sales team recently brokered the sale of a 4,991-sq.-ft. multi-tenant retail building within the Underwood Crossings development, a 175,000-sq.-ft. retail center located in Brookfield (Milwaukee MSA), Wisconsin. A private investor purchased the property for $1.7 million.

  • The Shopping Center Group expands to California

    Atlanta --  The Shopping Center Group announced its continued expansion with the addition of a California brokerage team of industry veterans. The move across the Mississippi River marks the firm’s first foray into western United States. Located in Santa Barbara, the new office opened Dec. 1.

    “The acquisition of this team is a big step in The Shopping Center Group’s pursuit of a national footprint," said chairman and Co-CEO David Birnbrey.
