    It’s a new year, and with it comes the opportunity for a fresh start for retailers as well as consumers. As in new years past, I’m inundated with a flurry of trend forecasts, surveys and predictions. One of the more interesting ones to cross my desk comes from JWT, New York, one of the world’s biggest marketing communications brands. It is the firm’s seventh annual year-end forecast of trends that will impact consumer behavior going forward.

  • Consumer poll: 25% of Americans haven’t started holiday shopping yet

    Yonkers, N.Y. -- The Consumer Reports Holiday Poll released Wednesday found that a quarter of adults in the United States had yet to begin their holiday shopping as of Dec. 19, compared with 17% last year.

    Of those who haven't started shopping yet, 54% cited lack of enough money as a reason, 41% still believe they have plenty of time, while 29% are in procrastination mode.

    SOLON, Ohio — Macy's is partnering with Earthworks System LLC, a provider of 100% recycled PVC sheets for the plastic card industry and plastic card recycling programs, to provide its customers with a recyclable gift card program for the retailer’s customers.

  • Shaun White brings style to Target home

    MINNEAPOLIS — Target announced that its Shaun White home line will debut at Target stores and Target.com the week of Dec. 26. 

    The debut home line is a limited time only collection that includes bedding, lamps, wall decals, curtains, storage bins, a skateboard rack and piggy banks, the company said. Items will be in stores through June 2012. Priced affordably, the collection ranges from $9.99 to $89.99.

  • Saks offers Fifth Ave POV with redesigned site

    NEW YORK — Saks Fifth Avenue has taken its brand beyond fashion retail with the launch of its redesigned SaksPOV website. Designed to offer a point of view from Fifth Avenue, the company said, the new site will feature multimedia content, designer features, Saks brand coverage and compelling lifestyle pieces. SaksPOV launched initially in December 2010.
