    ShopAdvisor, is a mobile service that reminds consumers of the things they want to buy later on, has named Peter O’Kelly as chief data officer. He will lead the company’s efforts to turn its collection of intent and affinity shopping data into offerings for media providers, marketers and retailers.

  • Liverpool, Boca del Rio, Veracruz (Mexico)

    The beach community locale served as the inspiration for Liverpool's new store in Boca del Rio, Veracruz (Liverpool is Mexico's largest department store chain). The design of the 301,389-sq.ft. store, which took top honors in Chain Store Age's 2014 Retail Store of the Year design competition, utilized the natural surroundings as a reference for the interior's organic shapes, color, textures and patterns, creating a space that balances nature and modernism.

  • Shakira’s exclusive album available for pre-order at Target

    Target and international pop star Shakira are teaming up to release an exclusive deluxe edition of her latest album, “Shakira.” It’s Target’s first major artist collaboration of the year.

    The exclusive deluxe edition will include three bonus tracks and is available for pre-order now at Target.com.

    “There were three special songs I recorded for ‘Shakira’ that I decided to save for the version of the album available only at Target,” explained Shakira.

  • Study: Super Bowl to generate $210 million of direct spending in N.Y., N.J.

    New York -- Direct spending in New York and New Jersey by the National Football League (NFL), businesses, visitors, and media on area lodging, transportation, food and beverage, entertainment, business services, and other hospitality and tourism activities related to Super Bowl XLVIII is expected to total more than $210 million.

  • Online attention grabbers are not so great at grabbing attention

    Retailer assumptions that displaying faces, large text and the word “free” on their websites will draw customer attention may not be correct. Recent analysis from an eye-tracking study by neuroscience artificial intelligence technology provider EyeQuant shows all three of these assumptions are less true than many retailers think.

  • Survey: One-third of Americans will buy new TV in 2014

    Beloit, Wis. -- Almost one-third of U.S., consumers (30%) plan to buy a new TV in 2014 and of those, 32% said during Super Bowl sales, while 25% said during Black Friday. A new consumer survey from FatWallet also revealed price will have the most influence on TV purchases, with more than half saying they plan to spend less than $500, while one-in-four plan to spend more than $700.

  • Report: Obama to visit a Costco on Wednesday

    Washington, D.C. — A day after he gives his State of the Union speech, President Obama will follow up Wednesday with visits to a Costco store in Maryland and a steel plant in Pennsylvania, USA Today reported.

    During his stop at the Costco in Lanham, which is located about 15 miles from the White House, Obama is expected to deliver remarks on the economy, the report said.
