  • Columbia Sportswear discuses Cloud tech at conference

    OAKLAND, Calif. — Columbia Sportswear is headed to the Gartner Supply Chain Executive Conference, being held May 21-23, in Phoenix, Ariz., to share insights and best practices for deploying cloud technology alongside GT Nexus. 

    Fred Pond, VP, CIO of Columbia Sportswear, and Kurt Cavano, chief strategy officer at GT Nexus, will share lessons learned from Columbia's technology approach to executing global procure-to-pay processes in which buyers, suppliers, financial institutions and other key third parties operate on the same cloud platform.

  • Bloomingdale’s to make Hawaiian debut

    New York -- Bloomingdale’s plans to open a 167,000-sq.-ft., three-level store at the Ala Moana Center in Honolulu in fall 2015. It will be the retailer’s first location in the state of Hawaii.

    The new store will be part of a redevelopment of a portion of Ala Moana, by GeneralGrowth Properties. Construction will begin in 2014. The upscale chain of department stores, owned by Macy’s, will join a Macy’s store which already operates at the shopping center.

  • SC Johnson CEO hailed champion of literacy

    RACINE, Wis. — Fisk Johnson, SC Johnson's chairman and CEO, has been named "Friend of the Library" by the Racine Public Library. Johnson received the award for sponsoring the Racine Reads: Dream Big! program during the 2011-2012 school year. 

    The program challenged 10,000 local elementary school students to read 1 million books during the school year — an average of 100 books per child. Students rose to the challenge, by more than quadrupling the national average, by reading 180 books per student and 1.8 million books in total. 

  • Cupcake Charlie’s opens at Patriot Place

    Foxborough, Mass. -- Gourmet cupcake bakery Cupcake Charlie’s will celebrate the opening of its fourth location on May 18, at Patriot Place in Foxborough, Mass.

    The growing business also has locations in Mashpee, Plymouth and Newport, R.I.
     

     

  • Kroger exec named YWCA Career Woman of Achievement

    CINCINNATI — Kroger corporate officer and SVP for human resources Kathleen Barclay was among 10 women named a YWCA Career Woman of Achievement. 

    "I am honored and humbled to receive this recognition from the YWCA, a truly exceptional organization in Cincinnati and across the country," said Barclay. "I am grateful to work in an industry that provides the incredible opportunity to touch the lives of a very large group of women inside and outside our company, each and every day."

  • Deloitte: Stable economic fundamentals keep consumer spending outlook on track

    New York -- The Deloitte Consumer Spending Index (Index) dipped slightly in April, primarily due to an increase in the tax rate, while other economic fundamentals remain steady. The Index tracks consumer cash flow as an indicator of future consumer spending.

  • Barneys’ Simon Doonan designs window display for Duane Reade

    Englewood Cliffs, N.J. -- In what it called a “first-of-its-kind” installation at a drugstore chain, Nexxus Salon Hair Care unveiled a window display tribute to the Tony Awards and Broadway at the Duane Reade store across from Radio City Music Hall in Manhattan. The installation was created by Simon Doonan, creative ambassador for Barneys New York, who is best known for his whimsical, and sometimes outrageous, window displays.
