  • Office Depot files SEC presentation supporting board nominees

    Boca Raton, Fla. – Office Depot has filed a presentation with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which the retailer says demonstrates the importance of shareholders electing its board’s nominees at the company’s annual meeting on Aug. 21.

  • Report: IT spend migrates beyond CIO

    Franklin, Tenn. – More than $11.6 billion of retail IT spending, or 35% of the total, will come from budgets other than that of the CIO. Of that total “black ops” IT spend, $6.6 billion will come from the activities of the CMO and their purchases of hardware, software, SaaS, and services outside of the CIO budget.

  • Valpak vets join Sterling Payment Technologies

    William Disbrow and Jim Sampey, former executives with Valpak/Cox Target Media, have joined Sterling Payment Technologies to grow Sterling’s loyalty products and a mobile initiative branded as Perkz.

    Disbrow and Sampey were both longtime former executives at Valpak/Cox Target Media who held C-level positions.

  • Vera Bradley expands Indiana campus

    Fort Wayne, Ind. – Vera Bradley is expanding its Roanoke, Ind., campus, creating what the vertical specialty retailer estimates will be about 128 new jobs during the next four years. The company will invest approximately $26.6 million to expand both its current 40,000-sq.-ft. design center by 149,000 sq. ft. and its 420,000-sq.-ft. distribution center by 10,000 sq. ft. Both complexes are located just outside Fort Wayne, Ind., near Interstate 69.

  • Silver Jeans Co. to open loft concept at La Plaza Mall

    Winnipeg, Manitoba — Silver Jeans Co. has announced the opening of a loft concept store at La Plaza Mall in McAllen, Texas, on Sept. 13.

    “We put a lot of work into making sure the store environment represents our brand,” said Michael Silver, Silver Jeans’ CEO. The 1,536-sq.-ft. loft will feature digital technology with a mobile point-of-sale system. A 6-ft media wall will display the latest ad campaign and music videos.

  • nGage Labs prepares for next level with expanded exec team

    SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — nGage Labs, Inc., a leading provider of in-store shopper engagement solutions for retailers, has appointed Peter Charness as president; Nancy Terzolani as SVP of client experience and Larry Negrich as VP of marketing. 

    They will be charged with leading the company in its next phase of growth.

  • Consolo, Aquino arrange Boyoung Kim debut store

    New York — Korean fashion designer Boyoung Kim will open her first dedicated boutique on Columbus Avenue, said Faith Hope Consolo, chairman, and Joseph A. Aquino, executive VP of Douglas Elliman’s Retail Group.

  • PMA names supermarket industry veteran as president

    NEWARK, Del. — The Produce Marketing Association has appointed Cathy Green Burns as the association’s president, effective December 1, as part of its continued restructuring of the senior leadership team. 

    In her new role, Green Burns will focus initially on leading board and staff team development as well as lending her insight to business development activities. She will report to PMA CEO Bryan Silbermann, who previously held both president and CEO positions.
