  • Transwestern brings on new managing director

    Los Angeles — David K. Henry will join Transwestern as a Los Angeles-based managing director. He will lead the West Coast Tenant Advisory Services group and serve occupier clients with locations throughout the U.S. along with the tenant advisory group’s international alliance with Paris-based BNP Paribas Real Estate. Henry will also join the firm’s National Tenant Advisory Steering Committee.

  • Wal-Mart to offer smartphone trade-in program

    Walmart has announced plans to launch a smartphone trade-in program on the same day Apple announced the iPhone 5s, featuring an all-new A7 chip and a 64-bit desktop-class architecture for fast performance, as well as the iPhone 5c, which builds on the iPhone 5 and comes in five different colors. 

  • Dollar Tree to lease through R.J. Brunelli in New Jersey

    Old Bridge, N.J. — Dollar Tree has retained R.J. Brunelli & Co. as exclusive leasing agent for all of New Jersey, adding areas south of Route 195 to the northern and central parts of the state that the firm has been handling all along.

  • Report: Manufacturer sues J.C. Penney for breach of contract

    Plano, Texas – Coffee press manufacturer Bodum Group is reportedly suing J.C. Penney Co. for breach of contract. According to Reuters, Bodum filed a lawsuit in the New York State Supreme Court on Aug. 30 alleging the retailer did not live up to an agreement to build an agreed number of in-store Bodum specialty boutiques by March 2013.

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Kmart has launched a low-cost check-cashing service for Shop Your Way members at stores nationwide. 

  • Newk’s Eatery names director of development; 12 restaurants on tap

    Jackson, Miss. -- Fresh casual restaurant brand Newk’s Eatery announced the hire of two new support center team members who will assist in the national expansion of the brand.

    After nine years in business, Newk’s Eatery has entered a renewed growth mode, with 12 new restaurant locations planned to open before year end 2013. Newk’s currently operates and franchises 59 units in 11 states.

  • Project: Worldwide acquires Mercury 11

    Dallas – Independent agency network Project: Worldwide intends to acquire Mercury 11, a social media and marketing technology agency with retail and shopper marketing focus. The agency will be integrated with Project’s shopper marketing engagement agency Shoptology.

  • Wal-Mart exec appointed to World Affairs Council board

    Fumbi Chima, Walmart VP of global technology services and strategic partnerships, has been elected to the World Affairs Council-Washington, D.C., board of directors.

    Chima is responsible for Walmart’s vendor management office, project management office and its global technology services office in India, as well as the IT asset management team.
