  • Ahold USA names president of Giant-Landover

    Carlisle, Pa. -- Ahold USA announced that Gordon Reid will join the company’s Giant-Landover division as president, effective Nov. 4. He most recently served as group director for commercial services for Dairy Farm International, which operates more than 5,600 retail outlets throughout Asia.

    Reid replaces Bhavdeep Singh, who has served as interim president since September. Singh continues to serve as executive VP, operations, Ahold USA.

  • Gigwalk upgrades platform, enhances workforce

    Gigwalk has made a major upgrade to its platform that involves new higher skilled, higher paid “Gigs” (jobs on the Gigwalk app) and free training programs based on worker certifications. The move makes Gigwalk the only mobile work marketplace that allows workers to advance their careers through special courses and certifications.

  • Brazilian steakhouse signs into Louisville center

    Louisville, Ky. — Brazeiros Churrascaria, a traditional Brazilian steakhouse will open its doors at Fourth Street Live! in Louisville early next year. The restaurant will occupy more than 6,000 sq. ft. and employ approximately 85.

    Brazeiros is an authentic churrascaria, which means steakhouse, and churrasco is a gaucho’s traditional way of cooking meats.

  • Giant-Landover appoints new president

    Ahold USA has appointed former executive for Asian retailer Dairy Farm International Gordon Reid as president of its Giant Food of Landover, Md., division.

    Reid is replacing interim president and Ahold USA EVP operations Bhavdeep Singh. Singh served in the role of interim president following the departure of Anthony Hucker, who resigned from Giant-Landover in September to become EVP and chief strategy officer for St. Louis-based Schnuck Markets.

  • Texas Family Fitness inks Colony lease

    Dallas — Texas Family Fitness has leased space for a 21,367-sq.-ft. fitness center in The Colony, a Cypress Equities development that currently houses Aaron’s and Big Lots!. The fitness center plans to open in first quarter 2014.

    The new center will mark the seventh Dallas-Fort Worth location for Texas Family Fitness. Retail Realty represented both the fitness center and the landlord in the transaction.

     

  • P&G Professional unveils new e-commerce site

    LONDON — P&G Professional, a division of Procter and Gamble that supplies professional cleaning products to hotels, restaurants, care homes and other businesses, has unveiled an e-commerce site making P&G Professional's new range of specialist branded cleaning products available for online purchase.

  • Big Lots to shut down its wholesale business

    Columbus, Ohio -- Big Lots will close down its wholesale operations — Big Lots Wholesale, Consolidated International and Wisconsin Toy — by the end of its current fiscal year as it concentrates its focus on its retail stores. The shuttering will result in the liquidation of the wholesale unit's inventory.

  • Hillshire Brands solid in first quarter

    Hillshire Brands reported net sales of $984 million for the first quarter of fiscal 2014 — that’s a 1% increase from the prior year’s first quarter, driven by positive pricing and mix in the company's foodservice/other segment.

    Retail net sales showed a slight dip of 0.7% in the quarter versus a strong prior year comparable. Favorable mix was more than offset by lower volumes and lower pricing, reflecting higher above-the-line marketing investment.
