  • Stater Bros. Markets in executive promotion

    San Bernardino, Calif. -- Stater Bros. Markets has announced the promotion of David Harris to the position of executive VP finance, CFO and principal accounting officer of Stater Bros. Markets, effective Nov. 25.
     
    Harris joined Stater Bros. in 2009 as VP finance. In June 2011 he was promoted to senior VP finance, and in 2012 he was promoted to senior VP finance, CFO and principal accounting officer.

    Harris reports to Jack H. Brown, chairman of the board and CEO.

  • Ann Inc. looks ‘outstanding’ in third quarter

    Higher sales, including mid-single digit comparable -sales growth, helped drive Ann Inc.’s third quarter results.  

    The company posted third-quarter earnings of $41.2 million, compared to $40.7 million in the year-earlier quarter. Net sales grew 7% to $657.3 million from $612.5 million. Total same-store sales increased 3.7%. By brand, same-store sales inched up 0.6% at Ann Taylor and 5.6% at Loft. However, sales fell 6.9% in the Ann Taylor Factory channel.

  • ShopperTrak revises holiday traffic downward based on expanded sample

    Chicago -- Using new traffic forecasting metholdology, ShopperTrak now forecasts that 10% fewer shoppers will visit brick-and-mortar stores in the holiday months of November and December as compared to last year. In September, the company has projected a 1.4% decline in traffic.
     

  • Ann Inc. Q3 income and sales top projections

    New York – Ann Inc. reported better-than-expected income and sales for the third quarter. The retailer Ann Inc. posted third-quarter earnings of $41.2 million, compared to $40.7 million in the year-earlier quarter.  

    Net sales grew 7% to $657.3 million from $612.5 million. Total same-store sales increased 3.7%. By brand, same-store sales inched up 0.6% at Ann Taylor and 5.6% at Loft. However, sales fell 6.9% in the Ann Taylor Factory channel.

  • Walgreens opens joint store with Johns Hopkins

    Deerfield Park, Ill. – Walgreens is opening a new joint store with Johns Hopkins Medicine adjacent to the medical school’s campus in Baltimore. The new Walgreens “Well Experience” store offers a normal Walgreens product assortment, as well as health services including student health services, a healthcare clinic, and chronic disease education.

    The healthcare clinic is staffed by board-certified nurse practitioners, marking the first Walgreens in-store retail clinic in the state of Maryland.

  • Ross Stores Q3 profit up 8%; cautious about holiday

    Pleasanton, Calif. -- Ross Stores Inc. reported third-quarter profit of $171.6 million, up from $159.5 million a year earlier, on higher sales and gross margins. Looking ahead to the fourth quarter, the off-retailer forecast earnings below Street estimates and said it was adopting a more cautious outlook for the quarter.

  • PetSmart net income jumps 12% in Q3

    Phoenix – PetSmart reported a 12% increase in net income, to $92 million from $82 million a year earlier, during the third quarter of 2013. Total sales grew about 4%, to $1.69 billion from $1.62 billion, while same-store sales increased 2.7%.

    Looking ahead, PetSmart predicts same-store sales growth of 3%-3.5% and total sales growth of approximately 3% for fiscal 2013. For the fourth quarter of fiscal 2013, PetSmart forecasts same-store sales growth of 2.5%-3.5% and a 2%-3% decrease in total sales.

  • Sam’s Club’s sensible approach to the holidays

    Bucking a retail industry trend this year, Sam’s Club won’t be open on Thanksgiving Day and on Black Friday it won’t open until 7 a.m. Instead, Sam’s is throwing some new promotional wrinkles at members and non-members including, “Sam’s Sunday,” event to drive sales.
