    Just four months after launching a major ad campaign, Staples named Frank Bifulco to the role of EVP of marketing where he will drive the brand’s ongoing repositioning.

  • Starbucks to open La Boulange eatery in Los Angeles

    New York -- Starbucks Corp. plans to bring its La Boulange Bakery café chain to Los Angeles, opening a location with extensive food offerings. The eatery is scheduled to open June 11, and will also serve beer, wine, cocktails as well as milkshakes, the Associated Press reported.

  • Logan’s Roadhouse rolls out Microstrategy-based mobile app

    Tyson’s Corner, Va. - Logan's Roadhouse has selected MicroStrategy's Alert Platform as the foundation for a new customer-focused mobile app. Through its new app, Logan's intends to provide a complete brand experience to mobile consumers.

    Using mobile conveniences and marketing features available in the Alert platform, Logan's expects to generate more repeat business, amplify its social presence, and deliver enhanced loyalty services.

    Every year, one of my personal highlights is the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) RECon convention in Las Vegas. It’s a chance both to connect with the fascinating leaders in our field, as well as to see a few steps into the future. RECon bills itself at the “global convention for the shopping center industry,” and that label is an accurate one: Over 1,000 exhibitors and more than 32,000 attendees make RECon the largest convention in the industry.

  • AutoZone stays on the right track in third quarter

    AutoZone marked its 31st consecutive quarter of double digit earnings per share growth for the period ended May 10.

    The company reported net sales of $2.3 billion for the quarter, an increase of 6.2% from the third quarter last year. Domestic same-store sales, or sales for stores open at least one year, increased 4% for the quarter.

    Net income for the quarter increased $19.6 million, or 7.4%, over the same period last year to $285.2 million, while diluted earnings per share increased 16.4% to $8.46 per share from $7.27 per share in the year-ago quarter.

  • Intuit to acquire mobile bill pay company Check

    New York -- Intuit has entered into a definitive agreement to purchase Check, a mobile bill pay company with some 10 million registered users. The acquisition will help accelerate Intuit’s ability to offer bill pay across small business and personal finance products and create opportunities to retain, attract and serve additional customers.

  • Checkpoint Systems upgrades EAS solutions

    Checkpoint Systems, a leading global supplier of merchandise availability solutions for the retail industry, has launched the next generation of intelligent electronic article surveillance (EAS) solutions.

    The Evolve iRange is made up of six different EAS antennas, a broad range of EAS labels designed for visible and source-tagging application to various types of merchandise, and the Counterpoint iD deactivation unit for faster and consistent deactivation at point-of-sale (POS).

  • Corner Bakery Café expanding in Seattle, Las Vegas

    Dallas -- Fast-casual restaurant chain Corner Bakery Café announced two multi-unit development agreements with California-based businessman Anil Yadav, CEO of JIB Management, who plans to open 16 cafes in Seattle, and seven in Las Vegas, over the next seven years.
