  • Another retailer enters e-commerce fray

    Omaha, Neb. – The retail e-commerce landscape just got a little wider. Discount department store retailer Gordmans Inc. is jumping from operating 101 brick-and-mortar stores in 22 states to offering an e-commerce site for consumers across the country.

    The online store also offers an extended assortment beyond what's available in-store. This includes broader sizes and styles in the dedicated Levi's shop, MLB, NCAA and NFL sports team apparel and an expanded selection of holiday décor.

  • TJX shows value in Q2

    Framingham, Mass. – The TJX Companies Inc. showed value to its investors in a strong second quarter of fiscal 2016 where it beat Wall street expectations for both profit and sales. The elimination of a debt extinguishment loss and lower interest expenses helped push net income up 6% to $549.33 million, from $517.62 million the same period the prior fiscal year.

    The world's largest home improvement chain is benefiting from Americans spending more on their homes than on their wardrobes, as Home Depot reported record sales and earnings in the second quarter.

    Bentonville, Ark. -- In a shift to quality over quantity, Walmart has cut expansion plans for its Neighborhood Market stores despite the format’s consistently strong top line growth in recent years.

  • Dick’s Sporting Goods plans stores-within-stores from major brands

    Pittsburgh – Dick’s Sporting Goods Inc. is partnering with two top brands to open specialty stores-within-a-store at select Dick’s locations. In a conference call with investors, Dick’s CEO Ed Stack said the retailer will pilot stores-within-a-store from Nike Air Jordan and Polo Sport later this year and next year.

  • CVS enters new dispensing channel with $12.9 billion purchase

    Woonsocket, R.I. – CVS Health Corp. is entering a new pharmacy dispensing channel with the completion of an approximately $12.9 billion acquisition of Omnicare, a provider of pharmacy services to long-term care facilities. CVS initially announced the deal in May 2015.

    CVS expects the deal to significantly expand its ability to dispense prescriptions in assisted living and long term care facilities, as well as expand its presence in the specialty pharmacy business.

  • Kroger eyes greater growth in Texas

    Kroger is thinking big in Texas with a three year, $1.2 billion investment plan and just created a new senior leadership structure to execute the growth strategy.

    Kroger’s growth aspirations in Texas will be overseen by two key executives tasked with leading newly created divisions. The retailer created a new Dallas division and a Houston division. The stores in both areas were previously part of the company’s 214 unit Southwest division.
