  • Dick’s Sporting Goods to offer two concepts under new banner

    Pittsburgh – Dick’s Sporting Goods is opening a combination store format.

    The retailer will open its first “All-American Sports Center” on July 23 at McGowin Park in Mobile, Alabama. The concept features a Dick's Sporting Goods and a Field & Stream store in one location under the same roof.  

    Customers benefit from an expanded assortment and the ability to move between the two stores once inside, creating a unique, exciting shopping experience, Dick’s said.

  • Conn’s taps West Marine exec as CFO

    New York -- Every retailer needs a good CFO and that’s especially true at Conn’s where the company’s business model requires balancing the need to grow sales against the charge off risk associated with extending credit to subprime customers.

    Conn’s, the 90-store retailer of furniture, bedding, appliances and consumer electronics, named Thomas Moran CFO on July 9. He replaces Mark Haley, Conn’s chief accounting officer, who had filled the position on an interim basis since last December.

  • The Summit at Scottsdale acquired for $54.1 million

    Phoenix -- DTZ, a leader in commercial real estate services, announced that a limited partnership formed by Weingarten Realty Investors of Houston acquired The Summit at Scottsdale, a 190,408-sq.-ft. retail center anchored by Safeway and Target, for $54.1 million.

    Donahue Schriber Realty Group, L.P., of Costa Mesa, California, was the seller of the property located on the southeast corner of Scottsdale Road and Ashler Hills Drive in Scottsdale, Arizona.

  • Crossroads Towne Center sells for $52 million

    Phoenix -- DTZ, a leader in commercial real estate services, announced the $52 million sale of Crossroads Towne Center in North Las Vegas -- a 148,791-sq.-ft. neighborhood retail center located on 16.34 acres -- on behalf of the sellers, a company formed by The Eagle Group, Los Angeles. The buyer was a company formed by Cornerstone Advisers of Santa Monica, California.

  • Toys ‘R’ Us kicks its e-commerce business up a notch

    Wayne, N.J. – Toys “R” Us is taking e-commerce into its own hands.

    In a move to optimize its e-commerce business and significantly improve the customer experience online, the toy giant announced plans to bring its U.S. e-commerce operations in-house. The plans include building and managing a new platform for Toysrus.com, Babiesrus.com and FAO.com.

    Toys “R” Us expects to launch its own online platform by the end of summer 2016.

  • At Home expands into new market

    Plano, Texas -- Home décor superstore At Home is entering a new market.

    The retailer announced opening of its store in Kenner, Louisiana, on July 9. The 90,000-sq.-ft. is At Home’s first store in Louisiana.

    At Home currently operates more than 90 stores across 25 states.
     

  • Ikea goes greener in Canada

    Burlington, Ontario -- Ikea Canada announced the national rollout of electric vehicle charging stations at each of its 12 stores across Canada.  

    The rollout, set to be completed by late August of this year, is the first national installation of EV charging stations in Canada by a retailer at all of its locations.

  • On heels of strong Q3, Walgreens officially has new CEO

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens Boots Alliance appears to be just getting started. The company posted third-quarter EPS of $1.02 for the period ended May 31, which was 15 cents better than analyst estimates of 87 cents. However, revenue for the quarter came in at $28.8 billion, up 48.4%, against consensus estimates of $29.6 billion. Domestic operations were up 5.3% to $20.4 billion.   
  • Orange Door campaign a hit at Home Depot

    The Home Depot has come one step closer to eliminating youth homelessness in Canada after sponsoring an inventive in-store campaign.

    By purchasing a paper door for $2, Home Depot customers in Canada raised $1,253,370 toward the goal of ending youth homelessness in that nation. Donations will go to support housing and life-skills development programs such as counselling, financial literacy, and employment preparation to give youth the practical tools they need to live to their full potential.

  • Walgreens posts 82% profit boost, names Stefano Pessina CEO

    The man who ran European drugstore chain Alliance Boots before its merger last year with Walgreens has agreed to become the top executive of the combined company.
