  • Ethically-sourced Brilliant Earth expanding in brick-and-mortar

    Another online retailer has made the jump to the physical space.   Brilliant Earth announced plans to open three new locations, in San Diego, California; Washington, D.C.; and Denver, during the spring and summer. The new showrooms will join the retailer’s five other existing locations in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston and Chicago.  
  • Meijer investing in new stores, remodels

    Privately-owned, family-operated Meijer announced plans to invest more than $375 million in new and remodeled stores in 2017 across its six-state footprint.    The investment includes the construction of seven new Meijer supercenters and 22 remodel projects. While Michigan, Indiana, and Wisconsin will each welcome new Meijer supercenters later this year, dozens of other Meijer stores have begun or will soon begin remodel projects to enhance the customer shopping experience.  
  • Amazon in big solar initiative

    Amazon is making a big commitment to renewable energy.   The online giant announced plans to install solar panels on its fulfillment facilities around the world, including the deployment of large-scale solar systems on rooftops of more than 15 U.S. fulfillment and sortation centers this year.   Amazon plans to deploy solar systems on 50 fulfillment and sortation centers globally by 2020.

    Apple’s Spaceship to Land


    Apple will open its highly anticipated new campus in April. Dubbed Apple Park, the site is located on a 175-acre site in Cupertino, Calif.

    The heart of the campus is a futuristic, ring-shaped, 2.8 million-sq.-ft. headquarters building that’s clad entirely in panels of curved glass. Designed in collaboration with Foster + Partners, Apple Park is powered by 100% renewable energy. With 17 megawatts of rooftop solar, the campus will run one of the largest on-site solar energy installations in the world.

  • Decoding the Code

    Newest ASHRAE standard reduces LPD allowances

    The ANSI/ASHRAE/IES 90.1 energy standard provides a model energy code to jurisdictions interested in regulating the energy-efficient design of commercial buildings. ASHRAE recently published the 2016 version, which supersedes the 2013 version.

    The U.S. Department of Energy recognizes the 2013 version as the national energy reference standard. Starting in October 2016, all states were required to have an energy code in place at least as stringent as 90.1-2013 or justify why they could not comply.

  • Supermarket retailer promotes COO

    Raley’s has given COO Keith Knopf the additional title of president.   Raleys owner & CEO, Michael Teel announced the promotion of Knopf, who joined the company nearly two years ago, around the time Teel took majority ownership of the company. Teel will continue to direct the development of Raley’s overall strategic plan.  
  • Apple's spaceship-styled, energy-conserving home office to lift off in April

    Apple is preparing to unveil its latest development: Apple Park.   The name of Apple’s new spaceship-looking home office, Apple Park is a 175-acre campus located in California’s Santa Clara Valley. The new building, slated to open in April, will welcome more than 12,000 people over a six-month period. Construction of the campus and parklands is scheduled to continue through the summer, Apple said.
