  • Tuesday Morning Q4 revenue falls 3%, lowers outlook

    Dallas -- Tuesday Morning Corp. reported Wednesday that revenue for the quarter ended June 30 declined 3% to $194.8 million, compared with $200.8 million in the year-ago period.

    Same-store sales dropped 4.5% in the quarter.

    The closeout retailer cut its guidance for the year.

    For the full year, revenue dipped almost 1% to $821.3 million. Same-store sales fell 1.2%.
     

  • NRF joins restaurant group in support of legislation to protect small businesses

    WASHINGTON— The National Retail Federation has joined the National Restaurant Association in support of legislation that would require federal agencies to consider the impact on small businesses when establishing rules and regulations.

    “This legislation would strengthen the protections for small businesses in the often-asphyxiating federal regulatory process,” the two organizations said in a letter to House Small Business Committee Chairman Sam Graves, R-Mo., and Ranking Member Nydia Velazquez, D-N.Y.

  • Kraft Foods names new leadership at Europe division

    NORTHFIELD, Ill. — Kraft Foods announced that Michael Clarke, EVP and president of Kraft Foods Europe, will leave the company in mid-August to take a senior executive position with a U.K.-based public company. Kraft Foods has named Timothy Cofer, formerly SVP of the company's global chocolate category team, to succeed Clarke.  Cofer will report to chairman and CEO Irene Rosenfeld and become a member of the Kraft Executive Team.  He will be based in Zurich, Switzerland.

  • Woolworth Mexico’s deployment of RedPrairie solution wins logistics award

    Atlanta -- RedPrairie Corp. announced that Grupo Comercial Control, parent company to Woolworth Mexico and other well-known retail brands, won Mexico's annual National Award for Logistics for its successful implementation of a WMS integral strategy based on the RedPrairie Warehouse Management solution.

  • Microsoft Talks Up the Future

    The Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC) is taking place this week (July 10 – 14) in Los Angeles, with some 15,000 from around the globe in attendance at the Staples Center. It’s a huge event, with over 100 breakout sessions each day, 22 regional keynotes and country breakouts. To kick-off the show, CEO Steve Ballmer said that, thanks to partners, Windows 7 has sold more than 400 million licenses in less than two years, and is still the fastest-selling operating system in history.

  • Walgreen OK’s $2 billion stock buyback

    Deerfield, Ill. -- Walgreen Co. said Wednesday its board has authorized a new $2 billion stock buyback program.

    The drugstore retailer completed a previously announced $1 billion stock buyback program and now has approved a new $2 billion share repurchase program that expires Dec. 31, 2015.
     

  • Sleep retail vet named Mattress Giant exec

    Specialty retailer Mattress Giant named industry veteran Mike Bookbinder as its new EVP merchandising and marketing. Bookbinder’s name is familiar to those in the world of sleep-related retail, as he spent 11 years with the New York-based Sleepy’s chain where he held various roles including EVP of sales and marketing. He also served as president of City Mattress in upstate New York and most recently was with mattress manufacturer King Koil where he served in a new business development role as SVP sales.
