Sleep retail vet named Mattress Giant exec

Specialty retailer Mattress Giant named industry veteran Mike Bookbinder as its new EVP merchandising and marketing. Bookbinder’s name is familiar to those in the world of sleep-related retail, as he spent 11 years with the New York-based Sleepy’s chain where he held various roles including EVP of sales and marketing. He also served as president of City Mattress in upstate New York and most recently was with mattress manufacturer King Koil where he served in a new business development role as SVP sales.

Mattress Giant operates 325 stores in 14 states and Bookbinder assumes responsibilities previously held by Dominick Azevedo who left the chain several months ago to become president and CEO of Advanced Sleep Concepts.

“Mike Bookbinder is an extremely talented executive who will be a terrific addition to our Mattress Giant team,” said Mattress Giant president and CEO Michael Glazer. “With his passion for the business and his experience in growing retail sales, I have no doubt he will quickly be a significant contributor to the growth and profitability of Mattress Giant.”
