  • Burlington Coat Factory to open small-format store in Charlotte

    Charlotte, N.C. -- X Team International, an international alliance of retail real estate advisors, said that Charlotte, N.C.-based partner The Chambers Group has completed a lease for the first small-format Burlington Coat Factory store in Charlotte.

    Scheduled to open Oct. 1 at Woodlawn Marketplace, the smaller format store will be roughly 48,000 sq. ft. and joins T.J. Maxx and Family Dollar.

  • NRF: Proposed regulatory relief must go further

    Washington, D.C. -- The National Retail Federation welcomed plans announced by the Obama Administration Tuesday to streamline hundreds of government regulations, but said the plan does not go far enough.

  • American Eagle Q2 profit more than doubles

    Pittsburgh -- American Eagle Outfitters' second-quarter net income more than doubled to $19.7 million from $9.7 million in the year-ago period. The teen retailer credited the jump on increased revenue, growing online sales and fewer markdowns.

    Revenue for the period ended July 30 rose 4 percent to $675.7 million from $651.5 million, surpassing Wall Street's $652 million estimate. Same-store sales were flat compared with a 1% decline in the prior-year period.

  • Books-A-Million swings to loss

    Birmingham, Ala. -- Books-A-Million on Tuesday reported a second-quarter loss of $2.9 million, compared with a net income of $1.9 million in the year-ago period. The chain faulted lower sales as consumers move away from traditional books and pressure from the liquidation sales Borders Group is conducting.

    Revenue fell 11.4% to $106.4 million from $120 million last year. Same-store sales fell 12.9%.

  • Dick's Sporting Goods to open at Esplanade Shopping Center

    Oxnard, Calif. -- Centro Properties Group US announced that Dick’s Sporting Goods will open a new 44,166-sq.-ft. store at Esplanade Shopping Center, located in Oxnard, Calif.

    Esplanade Shopping Center is owned by Centro Properties, based in New York City.

     

  • Meijer thinks local with new Chicago store

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Meijer announced that it has opened a new, smaller-format grocery store in the Chicago area. The 90,000 sq. ft. Meijer Marketplace store in Melrose Park, will feature national and Meijer own brand grocery items, along with a full-service pharmacy offering a variety of national and Meijer brand health and beauty products, the company reported.  

  • Italian brand to makes U.S. retail debut

    New York City -- Italian handbag maker Piero Guidi will open its first retail location in the United States, in New York City’s Soho district. The Soho store will be the company's fourth standalone store outside of Italy, following openings in China, Japan and Hong Kong.
