  • H&M Q3 profit falls 15%, to add 265 stores

    Stockholm, Sweden -- Hennes & Mauritz AB reported Thursday that profit for the third quarter fell 15% to $533 million, from nearly $621 million in the year-ago period. The Swedish fashion retailer cited rising procurement costs, marketing investments and a bump-up in new-store expansion for the decrease in profit.

    H&M said it will add 265 new stores, up from the 250 previously planned, and will make market debuts in Indonesia and Thailand.

  • North American Video launches service contract for A&P

    Brick, N.J. -- North American Video said Thursday that it has begun servicing and maintenance of the video surveillance systems in all retail outlets across The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co.

    A total of over 330 stores across seven states are part of the service program; retail banners include A&P, The Food Emporium, Pathmark, SuperFresh, Best Cellars, Waldbaum’s and Food Basics. 

  • DSW ups Western U.S. presence

    Columbus, Ohio -- DSW said Thursday that it opened two new stores on Sept. 28.

    A new store opened at Vintage Oaks Shopping Center in Novato, Calif., and a new store opened the same day in Boise, Idaho, at Franklin Towne Plaza.

     

  • Ikea goes solar with Gloria Solar in Covina, Calif.

    Covina, Calif. -- Ikea officially plugged-in the solar energy system installed at its store in Covina, Calif. The 57,000-sq.-ft. photovoltaic array consists of a 451-kW system, built with 2,002 panels.

    Ikea contracted with Gloria Solar, the U.S. operating group focused on the photovoltaic business within the family of E-Ton Solar Group, for the development, design and installation of this customized solar power system

  • Quiznos to open at Meijer in Michigan

    DENVER — Quiznos will open restaurants in Meijer locations in Michigan, the quick service restaurant announced Wednesday. The relationship between Quiznos and Meijer is the most recent in a series of successful partnerships and store openings in Quiznos’ non-traditional development strategy, the company announced.

  • Family Dollar to open 450 to 500 stores in new fiscal year; Q4 profit up 8%

    Matthews, N.C. -- Family Dollar Stores announced Wednesday that it plans to open 450 to 500 new stores in fiscal 2012, a 50% jump compared with the number of openings in fiscal 2011, and will renovate, relocate or expand over 1,000 locations. The discounter also reported that its fiscal fourth-quarter net income rose 8%.

    “In fiscal 2012, we intend to accelerate investments to drive sales and profitability,” said Howard Levine, chairman and CEO.

  • Kohl's opens 30 new stores, focuses on innovation

    MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. — Kohl’s Department Stores has announced the grand opening of 30 new stores across 20 states. According to the company, these openings will create approximately 4,000 new jobs.

  • Wal-Mart names CEO of new regional management team

    Bentonville, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Store announced the appointment of David Cheesewright as executive VP, president and CEO of a new regional management team. In this newly created role, he will lead Walmart's retail operations in Canada, the United Kingdom and Sub-Saharan Africa, and will oversee business development in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Canada.

    Cheesewright will assume his role immediately and report directly to Doug McMillon, president and CEO, Walmart International.
