  • Search for Children's Place CFO ends with former Limited exec

    SECAUCUS, N.J. — More than a year after The Children's Place Retail Stores began its search for a new chief financial officer, following the departure of EVP finance and adminstration, Susan Riley, the company has named Steven Baginski as CFO. He will report to Eric Bauer, COO. 

  • JoS. A. Bank names merchandise exec promotion

    Hampstead, Md. -- JoS. A. Bank Clothiers said Wednesday that Frank J. Barbarino has been promoted to senior VP and general merchandise manager for the chain, effective April 15.

    In his new role, Barbarino will continue to lead the Tailored Clothing Department and will add Sportswear and Furnishings to his responsibilities. He will oversee product design, manufacturing and sourcing, as well as all retailing of the company’s merchandise lines.

    Barbarino was most recently VP for tailored clothing.

  • Wal-Mart answers with global anti-bribery watchdog appointment

    Bentonville, Ark. -- As part of its answer on Tuesday to a New York Times article regarding compliance with the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, Wal-Mart Stores VP corporate communications David Tovar announced that the retailer had appointed a global officer to oversee compliance.

    The move is just one of the steps that Tovar outlined toward managing issues related to the 1970s law that forbids bribing foreign officials.

    Wal-Mart has not yet identified the person who will fill the slot, or when it will be activated.
     

  • Sears expands 'Scrubology' shops

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. -- Sears Holdings has expanded the availability of its in-store professional apparel shop to 91 Sears and Kmart stores nationwide. The concept, called, "Scrubology," is already open in 39 stores and offers work apparel and uniforms for professionals in industrial, service and healthcare fields.

    The concept is a partnership with Work 'N Gear.

  • Online disadvantage is $23 billion and expanding

    Following up on last week’s commentary (A dot com disconnect and Canadian e-commerce opportunity revealed), the legislative loophole that has U.S. retailers at a disadvantage to their Canadian counterparts was on display again this week during congressional testimony in Washington, D.C.

  • Target real estate exec is Viking’s MVP

    The Minnesota Vikings are in need of a new football stadium and Target’s EVP property development John Griffith sees a proposed downtown Minneapolis location as one element of a larger development and revitalization plan. That’s according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, which reported this week on Griffith’s involvement in the downtown deal-making and track record at Target. Read the article here.

  • Charming Shoppes selects Manhattan SCOPE to drive DC efficiencies

    Atlanta -- Supply chain optimization provider Manhattan Associates said Wednesday that Charming Shoppes has selected solutions from the Manhattan SCOPE supply chain portfolio to optimize its distribution, transportation and distributed order processes in its Greencastle, Ind., distribution center.
