  • E-commerce growth not enough to help FedEx

    FedEx on Wednesday reported average daily package volume growth of 10% during the third quarter at its ground division, but it wasn’t enough to offset weakness elsewhere and profits were well short of analysts’ estimates.

  • Cuhaci & Peterson awarded contracts to design three Ale Houses

    Orlando, Fla. -- Cuhaci & Peterson Architects said Tuesday it has been awarded contracts to design three Ale House restaurants — in Winter Park, Fla., Queens, N.Y., and the Philadelphia area.

    The restaurants average 10,000 sq. ft. each.
     

  • Bi-Lo names SVP operations

    JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Anthea Jones has assumed the role of president at Bi-Lo. He will continue to serve as SVP operations. 

    Jones comes to the position from the Bi-Lo side of the recent merger between regional supermarkets Bi-Lo and Winn-Dixie. He signed on with Bi-Lo in 1999 after 17 years at Food Lion. He also is the immediate past board chairman for the Global Market Development Center. 

    Jones succeeds Michael Byars in the position. Randall Onstead continues as president and CEO of the combined company, Bi-Lo Holdings.

     

  • Rona appoints former Metro exec as new president and CEO

    Boucherville, Quebec, Canada -- Canadian home-improvement chain Rona Inc. announced Tuesday it has named Robert Sawyer as president and CEO, effective next month.

    Sawyer was previously an executive at grocery chain Metro Inc.

    Rona’s acting CEO Dominique Boies will remain as company CFO.

  • Rappaport and Principal form JV partnership to acquire Mid-Atlantic assets

    Washington, D.C. -- The Rappaport Cos. and Principal Real Estate Investors announced a joint venture to acquire retail assets throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.  

    The program launched with the recapitalization of approximately 1 million sq. ft. of retail space in four retail centers located in Northern Virginia.
