Bristol Farms boosts efficiency by reducing delivery frequency

Bristol Farms has been outsourcing logistics management since 1996. The upscale specialty grocery store operator initiated logistics outsourcing to aid growth. But the retailer has since used it to improve delivery efficiency. 

A desire to improve operational efficiency and capitalize on scale were cited as reasons for several senior level executive moves at Dollar General.

The retailer recently surpassed 11,000 units and chairman and CEO Rick Dreiling said the enhanced management structure involving Todd Vasos and David D’Arezzo would align the company for continued future growth.

Von Maur has opened its first location in Alabama, just outside of Birmingham, at Riverchase Galleria in Hoover. The 185,000-sq.-ft. store is one of the largest locations in the country.

Pittsburgh – Dick’s Sporting Goods will open three new stores and one remodeled store on Nov. 8. The new stores will be located at Newport Pavilion in Newport, Ky., Bartonsville Square in Stroudsburg, Pa., and South County Mall in South County, Mo.

Dick’s will also open its newly remodeled store in Saratoga Springs, NY on Sunday, Nov. 10.

The new stores will mark Dick’s 10th store in Kentucky, 37th store in Pennsylvania, and 13th store in Missouri. Dick’s will operate 555 stores in the U.S. as of Nov. 10.

Blue Nile, a leading online retailer of diamonds and fine jewelry, experienced its sixth consecutive quarter of double digit growth.

Net sales increased 10.1% to $98.9 million for the third quarter, compared to $89.8 million for the year-ago quarter.

Walmart U.S. president and CEO Bill Simon and Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker announced at the SelectUSA 2013 Investment Summit that three suppliers have made new domestic manufacturing commitments that will create 385 jobs.

The move is part of the retailer’s previously announced pledge to buy an additional $50 billion in U.S.-made products over the next decade.

Walmart said that Elan-Polo, Louis Hornick & Company and EveryWare Global will produce footwear, curtains and glassware, respectively.

Louisville, Ky. — Brazeiros Churrascaria, a traditional Brazilian steakhouse will open its doors at Fourth Street Live! in Louisville early next year. The restaurant will occupy more than 6,000 sq. ft. and employ approximately 85.

Brazeiros is an authentic churrascaria, which means steakhouse, and churrasco is a gaucho’s traditional way of cooking meats.

Lay's will be introducing Lay's Wavy Potato Chips Dipped in Milk Chocolate next week, according to a report from USA Today.

The chips, priced at $3.49 for a 5-oz. bag, will only be sold at Target for a limited time through the holidays. If the product is successful it could become a permanent fixture on store shelves, according to Ram Krishnan, VP marketing at Frito-Lay.
