Dallas -- Zale Corp. announced Friday that it has been cleared by the Securities and Exchange Commission in its investigation and that the SEC will not take any action against the company.

The SEC began investigating the jeweler in October 2009 after it restated its 2008 and 2009 earnings. The company said at the time that a financial audit had uncovered internal control and accounting issues related to advertising costs, income taxes and internal company payments, among other things.

Philadelphia -- Urban Outfitters said Thursday that Stephen Murray has resigned as global president of the Urban Outfitters brand.

The company said Murray plans to return to London and "pursue an opportunity with a wholesale business having an international focus."

Urban Outfitters CEO Glen Senk will take on Murray's duties until a replacement is found, the company said.

New York City -- Wal-Mart Stores has agreed to pay $440,000 to settle a federal harassment lawsuit by 10 employees who say they endured ethnic slurs and derogatory remarks on a daily basis while working at a Sam's Club store in Fresno, Calif. The EEOC announced the settlement Thursday.

Nine of the lawsuit plaintiffs were of Mexican descent and one was married to a Mexican. The alleged harasser was a Mexican-American co-worker.

MONTVALE, N.J. — A&P continues to implement its turnaround strategy with the announcement that it is filing a motion seeking court approval of bidding procedures to market and sell 25 Superfresh stores in two Southern states and the District of Columbia.

A&P, which filed for bankruptcy in December 2010, earlier this year revealed plans to shutter 32 stores in six states and bolstered its merchandising and marketing team with the appointment of six new executives.

CHICAGO — Walgreens' chief marketing officer Kim Feil was inducted into the In-Store Marketing Institute Hall of Fame Thursday morning in Chicago.

Feil was a seasoned consumer packaged goods marketer when she joined Walgreens in fall 2008, and as company CEO Greg Wasson recently noted, she propelled Walgreens from being a good advertiser to a world class marketing organization.

Salisbury, N.C. -- Bottom Dollar, a division of Delhaize American, has entered the Philadelphia market, opening a 17,000 sq.-ft. store.

Kokomo Ind. -- The Bon-Ton Stores said Thursday that it has signed a letter of intent with Simon Property Group for a 60,000-sq.-ft. facility at Markland Mall, located in Kokomo, Ind.

According to the department store retailer, the existing building will be remodeled by November, at which time Bon-Ton will open a new store under the Carson’s nameplate, replacing its current Elder-Beerman store presently located in Kokomo Mall.
