  • Saks reports double-digit Q3 profit growth, beats Street

    New York -- Saks Inc. reported Tuesday that net income for the third quarter climbed 27.2% to $22.6 million, compared with $17.8 million in the same period last year. Results surpassed analysts’ expectations.
     
    Revenue edged up 3% to $713.2 million, widely missing Wall Street’s expected $762.6 million in revenue. Same-store sales rose 3.3%.

  • Best Buy CEO outlines plan to reverse decline

    Minneapolis -- In his Tuesday address to investors and stockholders in New York City, newly minted Best Buy Co. CEO Hubert Joly acknowledged that sales and profits are on a decline, and presented a plan to shore up finances and operations by cutting expenses, rethinking footprints and improving both offline and online customer satisfaction. Part of the plan involved tapping former Williams-Sonoma exec Sharon McCollam as its new CFO.

  • TJX Q3 profit rises, forecasts falls short

    Framingham, Mass. -- TJX Cos. reported Tuesday that net income for the quarter ended Oct. 27 rose to $461.5 million, from $406.5 million last year.

    Sales rose 10.7% to $6.41 billion; same-store sales climbed 7%.

    The parent to T.J. Maxx and Marshalls said it expects same-store sales during the holiday quarter to be flat to up 2%.

     

  • CPG marketers join social firm

    Brand marketing veterans Chris Burggraeve and Ted McConnell are the newest members of the board of industry advisors at Syncapse, a leading social performance management company.

    Burggraeve is the former chief marketing officer of Anheuser-Busch InBev and founder of Vicomte LLC. McConnell is a former director of marketing innovation at Procter & Gambler and EVP of digital at the Advertising Research Foundation.

  • Zale expands customer financing options

    Dallas -- Zale Corp. announced the addition of Genesis Financial Solutions to its U.S. alternative financing program. The new financing option, which became available in October, is offered in Zales, Zales Outlet and Gordon’s retail stores.

  • West Elm to make Indiana debut

    Brooklyn, N.Y. -- West Elm, a division of Williams-Sonoma, announced that it will open store in Indianapolis on Nov.15.

    Located in The Fashion Mall at Keystone, it will be the first West Elm in Indiana. Through a partnership with Etsy, the store will feature a locally made collection of decorative accessories from artists in the Indianapolis area.

     

  • Retired Williams-Sonoma exec joins Best Buy

    Minneapolis -- Best Buy today announced that retired director, EVP, chief operating and CFO of Williams-Sonoma, Inc., Sharon McCollam, will join the company as its new chief administrative and CFO, effective Dec. 10, according to a Reuters report. McCollam, 50, left Williams-Sonoma earlier this year after serving as an executive officer for more than 12 years.

    McCollam succeeds CFO James Muehlbauer, whose departure was announced last month. Muehlbauer will leave the company at the end of this fiscal year, allowing for a smooth transition.

  • 7-Eleven completes purchase of 12 Fast Track stores

    Dallas -- 7-Eleven announced that it has completed the purchase of 12 stores from Fast Track  in Central North Carolina, including Winston-Salem. Terms of the agreement are not disclosed.

    Remodeling of the units to transform them into 7-Eleven stores gets underway in late November and rebranding is expected to be complete by mid-February 2013.
