  • BBC exec joins HSN, Inc. board

    ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Interactive multichannel retailer HSNi has appointed BBC executive Ann Sarnoff to its board of directors.

    Sarnoff will also serve on HSNi’s Compensation and Human Resources Committee. Her appointment expands the number of board members to ten.

  • Walgreens supplements Sandy relief effort

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens has made additional donations totaling $100,000 to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.

    The company, which includes Duane Reade in New York and New Jersey, is making two $50,000 contributions, one to the Empire State Relief Fund announced by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and the other to the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund established by Gov. Chris Christie.

  • Walmart strenghtens legal, compliance efforts

    Karen Roberts was named EVP and general counsel for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. on Thursday amid the retailer’s ongoing investigation in possible violations of the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

    Roberts, 42, is a 17 year Walmart veteran who most recently served as EVP and president of Walmart Realty for Walmart U.S.. However, prior to that, she held the position of SVP and chief compliance officer for Walmart U.S. where she oversaw the establishment of food and product safety programs and a recycling program.

    Former Sam’s Club SVP and GMM Huey Long and former Target EVP of stores Troy Risch have joined forces to right the ship at RadioShack.

  • Provider of retail software gets new director

    WALTHAM, Mass. — Profitect, a provider of retail software, has appointed Mike Mitchell as its new director of global professional services.

    Mitchell will lead the company’s project management and business consulting efforts. Prior to joining Profitect, Mitchell served as VP of customer service for Agilence, Inc., overseeing all product implementation, support and professional auditing services.

    COMMERCE, Calif. — 99 Cents Only Stores has revamped its website to better showcase a range of new capabilities, including bulk purchases and in-store pickup of online orders.

  • Chain drug association CFO retires

    ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The National Association of Chain Drug Stores’ EVP and CFO Jim Huber is retiring after 25 years of service.

    He will be succeeded by David Fitzsimmons, who has been promoted to SVP of finance and administration, effective December 21. Fitzsimmons currently serves as VP of finance and accounting.

  • Unilever fights to wipe out hunger

    ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. — Unilever has donated nearly $850,000 and three million pounds of Unilever brand products to Feeding America, the nation's leading hunger-relief organization, in 2012.

    The financial contribution comes from joint cause marketing programs and support from the Unilever United States Foundation.
