Abercrombie & Fitch is in cost-cutting mode.     The teen apparel retailer has let go 150 employees at its headquarters in New Albany, Ohio, Columbus Business First reported.    The retailer said the layoffs were part of its “ongoing cost reduction initiatives,” according to the report.  

Fraud, cyber and security incidents escalated in 2016.   That’s according to the “Kroll Annual Global Fraud and Risk Report,” which surveyed executives worldwide across multiple industries and geographies. The study noted that 82% of the respondents experienced a fraud incident in the past year compared to 75% in 2015.  

The owner of one of the largest independent furniture chains in the country has sold his company to a private equity firm approximately 58 years after he founded it.  

Gavin Walsh has joined Trademark Property Co. as a senior leasing representative focused on mixed-use properties in Texas. They include Waterside in Fort Worth, Watters Creek in Allen, and Hillside Village in Cedar Hill.   Walsh arrives at the Fort Worth-based developer from The Shopping Center Group in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he handled a portfolio exceeding three million sq. ft. He also worked as a broker for Katz & Associates in the state.  

Luxury Brand Holdings, parent company of Ross-Simons and Sidney Thomas, has appointed James M. Speltz as president.    Speltz will join the company’s board and oversee all business activities. Most recently, he was COO for Teikametrics, a software and service provider to Amazon.com third-party merchants.  

The search is on for a new president of Banana Republic, which has had a hard time finding its footing amid dismal same-store sales results.     Gap Inc. said Tuesday that company veteran Andi Owen, global brand president for Banana Republic, will leave the retailer in late February. Gap CEO Art Peck will directly oversee the brand until the company finds a replacement.   

A combination of factors, including innovation, cross-border deal interest and the availability of cash reserves, bodes well for deal activity in the retail and consumer markets.   That’s according to a review by PwC, which reported that the retail and consumer deals market ended 2016 with an increase in deal volume and a decline in deal value when compared to 2015.   

The CEO of Lane Bryant has stepped down just four months after receiving a big promotion.      Linda Heasley has resigned as chief executive of plus-sized apparel retailers Lane Bryant and Catherines, which are owned by Ascena Retail, The New York Post reported. Heasley was appointed CEO of Lane Bryant in 2013, after a successful six year stint as chief executive of The Limited. She was given the additional title of CEO of Catherines this past October as part of a company reorganization.
