  • Nemenschek acquires Bluebeam

    Pasadena, Calif. - German software provider Nemetschek AG is acquiring Bluebeam Software Inc., a developer of PDF-based collaboration solutions for the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry, for $100 million. Both firms focus on enabling project teams to build better by digitizing project information.

  • Wet Seal seeks new CFO

    Leadership changes continue at struggling specialty retailer Wet Seal. Just one month after appointing Edmond Thomas as CEO, following John D. Goodman’s departure, CFO Steve Benrubi has resigned. He will remain with the company through December 1 to assist with the transition.

    The company said it plans to search for a new CFO, but offered no further details.

  • Walgreens September same-store sales up 7.9%

    Deerfield, Ill. -- Walgreens’ same-store stores increased 7.9% in September. Total sales increased 9.4%, to $6.5 billion compared to the same month in fiscal 2014, the company reported Friday.

    Comparable store front-end sales rose 1.7%, while comparable store pharmacy sales rose 11.3%.

    Walgreens opened nine stores during September, including four relocations, and closed four.

     

  • Ross Dress for Less opens two Illinois stores Oct. 11

    Dublin, Calif. - Ross Dress for Less will open two new stores in Illinois on Oct. 11. The stores are located in Hickory Point Mall in Decatur and Times Square Mall in Mount Vernon.  

    These new openings are part of the retailer’s 2014 expansion program, totaling approximately 75 new locations during the year. 

     

  • Under Armour to build new DC in Nashville suburb

    Nashville, Tenn. -- Under Armour plans to build a new one million-sq.-ft. distribution and warehouse facility in Mount Juliet, Tennessee, a suburb of Nashville. This will be Under Armour's third distribution center in the United States, with the original warehouse in the company's hometown of Baltimore, Maryland, and the other located in Rialto, California.

  • Starbucks and HBO to honor veterans at free concert with stellar lineup

    Seattle -- Starbucks Coffee Company and HBO will host a free, all-star concert to honor the nations veterans and their families on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., to be presented live on HBO on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

    The line-up of performers scheduled to appear at The Concert for Valor include Bruce Springsteen, Eminem, Jamie Foxx, Dave Grohl, Metallica, John Oliver, Rihanna, Carrie Underwood and Zac Brown Band, as well as special appearances by Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, among others.

  • Ross Dress for Less opens two Hawaii stores Oct. 10

    Dublin, Calif. - Ross Dress for Less will open two new stores in Hawaii on Oct. 10. The stores are located in Kukui Grove Center in Lihue, on the island of Kauai, and the Kahala Mall in Honolulu, on the island of Oahu.  

    These new openings are part of the retailer’s 2014 expansion program, totaling approximately 75 new locations during the year.

     

  • Rite Aid sales climb in September

    Rite Aid reported $2 billion in sales for the four weeks ended Sept. 27, representing a 4.5% increase over the comparable year-ago period.
     
    Same-store sales increased 5.1% over the prior-year period, including a 2.3% lift in front-end same-store sales and growth of 6.3% in pharmacy comparable sales. Pharmacy same-store sales included an approximate 225 basis points negative impact from new generic introductions. Prescription count at comparable stores increased 4.4% over the prior-year period.
