Target to testify before Congress about breach

1/16/2014

Minneapolis – Target Corp. will reportedly testify about its recent massive holiday data breach in a Congressional hearing in early February 2014. According to Reuters, a Congressional commerce, manufacturing and trade subcommittee headed by Rep. Lee Terry (R-Neb.) will investigate large data breaches and their effect on consumers.

Target representatives will not be the only participants, as law enforcement officials and others will also testify before the committee. The Senate Commerce Committee has independently requested written information about the breach from Target.

"By examining these recent breaches and their consequences on consumers, we hope to gain a better understanding of the nature of these crimes and what steps can be taken to further protect information and limit cyber threats," Terry said in a statement.
