  • Stein Mart keeps steady growth going

    Off-price shop Stein Mart's strategy of just the right product, at just the right price, at just the right time seems to be working as the retailer reported another quarterly increase in same store sales.

    Stein Mart Inc. reported rising total sales in the second quarter ended Aug. 1. Total sales for the quarter rose 4% to $311.6 million, from $298.1 million. Same store sales for the quarter rose 3%.

  • Changes at Petco as company names new president

    San Diego -- Petco on Thursday today announced several key changes to its leadership team.

    In addition to adding chairman responsibilities to CEO Jim Myers' role, the company named Brad Weston as president.

    Previously, Weston served as executive VP, chief merchandising officer and president of the company’s Unleashed by Petco unit. The retail veteran joined Petco in October 2011 and led the evolution of the Unleashed by Petco format.

  • Delinquency rates creep up at Conn's

    Despite posting a sales increase in July, Conn's says nearly 10% of its customers are not paying their bills.

    "Greater than 60-day delinquency was 9.2% as of July 31, 2015 compared to 8.7% as of July 31, 2014. Greater than 60-day delinquency as of July 31, 2015 increased seasonally compared to the June 30, 2015 rate of 8.9%," said Theodore M. Wright, Conn’s chairman and chief executive officer.

    The CEO of Fairway says promotional and merchandising efforts affected traffic in the first quarter as the company posted a sharp decline in same store sales.

  • Retail heavy hitter joins JLL

    San Francisco -- JLL has tapped an industry veteran from one of the world’s largest retail chains to drive its global business strategy and cross-border expansion.

    The company named David Zoba as chairman of its Global Retail Leasing Board, effective immediately. Zoba brings 30 years of experience to the firm and most recently served as senior VP of global real estate and store development at Gap Inc., which he joined in 2009.

  • Zumiez has a fizzling July

    Lynnwood, Wash. – Specialty sports retailer Zumiez Inc. had a fizzling July. Net sales decreased 2% to $61.4 million, from $62.8 million the same four-week period a year earlier. Same-store sales dropped 7.6%.
