  • Abercrombie Q4 earnings nearly double

    New Albany, Ohio -- Abercrombie & Fitch Co.'s fiscal fourth-quarter net income nearly doubled on strong sales overseas and better U.S. results. The retailer reported net income of $92.6 million, up from $47.5 million a year ago.

    Revenue for the period ended Jan. 29 rose 23% to $1.15 billion, from $936 million. Domestic revenue rose 13%, while international revenue jumped 61%.

    Same-store sales rose 13%.

  • Wolstein stepping down as executive chairman of the Developers Diversified Realty board of directors

    Beachwood, Ohio -- The Developers Diversified Realty Corp. board of directors announced the company and Scott A. Wolstein have agreed he will step down from the role of executive chairman of the board of directors.

  • Walgreens promotes Mia Scholz

    CHICAGO — Walgreens last month promoted Mia Scholz from corporate VP accounting and controller to SVP accounting and controller. She joined Walgreens in 1999 as director of internal audit. She was named a divisional VP in 2003, and promoted to corporate VP accounting and controller in 2007.

    Before joining Walgreens, Scholz was a senior manager for Arthur Andersen LLP in Chicago.

    She received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, in 1988.

  • Sunflower Farmers Markets CEO arrested in child prostitution sting

    New York City -- Supermarket veteran Mike Gilliland, the founder, chairman and CEO of Sunflower Farmers Markets, was arrested after being charged in an undercover child-prostitution sting and has resigned, according to reports. Gilliland also was a founder of Wild Oats Market.

    Chris Sherrell was named acting CEO following Gilliland’s resignation on Saturday, Sunflower Farmers Market said on its website. Gilliland also quit his post on the Phoenix-based Sunflower’s company's board of directors.’

  • Former Ebay chief rejoins P&G's board

    CINCINNATI — The former president and CEO of Ebay has returned to Procter & Gamble's board of directors, effective immediately.

    Meg Whitman, who worked as a brand assistant for P&G after graduating from Harvard Business School, served on P&G's board from 2003 to 2008. During her career, Whitman served as president and CEO of eBay from 1998 until 2008. Whitman also ran for governor of California in the 2010 elections.

  • Food Lion recognizes Bloom store manager with award

    SALISBURY, N.C. — The Food Lion Family and Bloom has recognized Scott Brinson as the recipient of the 2010 store manager excellence award. Brinson, who is the store manager of Food Lion in Jacksonville, N.C., was selected from a group of seven other market/banner winners.

    The store manager excellence awards are a key part of Food Lion Family's and Bloom's efforts to acknowledge the leadership role store managers play. Food Lion Family president Cathy Green Burns presented Brinson with the award earlier this week during the company's Leadership Summit.

  • Civil rights complaint against CVS to go forward

    New York City -- The Rhode Island Commission for Human Rights will allow a civil rights complaint over an online job application used by CVS Caremark Corp. to go forward, saying there is probable cause to believe the pharmacy chain violated state anti-discrimination laws, the Associated Press said.

    The finding, released by the American Civil Liberties Union, allows the ACLU to sue the company.

  • Walmart Foundation gives some "Goodwill" to help single mothers find employment

    ROCKVILLE, Md. -- The Walmart Foundation and Goodwill have teamed up to provide single mothers with all the tools they need to find employment, succeed in the workplace and permanently support their families. The Walmart Foundation's grant of $2.5 million will support the program, known as Beyond Jobs, at Goodwill agencies in the five key markets of Atlanta, Boston, Los Angeles County, Detroit, and New York City, through 2012.
