  • Edens selected to revitalize grocery-anchored center with mix of uses

    Edens and Montgomery County Maryland announced the redevelopment of Burtonsville Crossing and the adjacent park-and-ride lot located in Burtonsville, Maryland.

    In 2014, Edens was selected by Montgomery County to develop the adjacent surface parking lot while continuing to provide commuter parking at this strategic location.

  • Burlington Stores shines a light on blood cancer

    Burlington Stores is taking the lead on raising awareness of blood cancer with an in-store donation drive and employee program.

    The retailer is launching its 14th consecutive company-wide campaign today in all its stores nationwide, encouraging its customers to make a donation at checkout to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society now through Dec. 2.

  • Reading Is Fundamental at Books-A-Million

    Books-A-Million is teaming up with the nation’s largest children’s literacy organizations on a campaign that is sure to appeal to its core customers.

    Through Sept. 19, customers at Books-A-Million can make a donation to Reading Is Fundamental. No purchase is necessary to donate, and contributions can be made at all Books-A-Million locations. Customers will receive an exclusive bookmark stating that they donated to Reading Is Fundamental.

  • Target employee fitness takes high-tech turn

    Target Corp. is going high-tech with efforts to improve employee fitness. All 335,000 U.S. employees of Target will be offered free or subsidized wearable digital activity trackers from Fitbit Inc.

    As part of the program, management will have a dashboard that can track individual employees by activities such as how many steps they take in a day. The basic FitBit Zip device will be provided free, or Target will help employees pay for a costlier FitBit wristband device.

    The Retail Industry Leaders Association introduced its second Retail Energy Management Report, a resource for companies to compare energy management programs across the industry and identify opportunities for progress.

    The report was released prior to the opening of RILA’s 2015 Retail Sustainability Conference, now in its eighth year.

  • Barnes & Noble is calling all Makers

    Barnes & Noble wants its shoppers to celebrate innovation and creativity by hosting its first ever "Maker Faire."

    The nation’s largest retail bookseller has formed a new partnership with Maker Media, publisher of Make: magazine and producer of Maker Faire, to launch the first-ever Mini Maker Faire in stores nationwide. The retailer is asking shoppers to participate at their local Barnes & Noble store the weekend of Nov. 6-8 to share their inventions, ideas and more.

  • Christmas spirit arrives early at Hobby Lobby

    Arts and crafts chain Hobby Lobby is embarking on a mission to give away millions of Christmas gifts to chidren in need this holiday season, a mission that will likely appeal to many consumers in its target market.

    The retailer announced is partnering with the world's largest Christmas project of its kind, Operation Christmas Child, which is a project of Samaritan's Purse, an international Christian relief and evangelism organization headed by Franklin Graham.
