Boot Barn delivers strong quarter as sales rise 19%; lifts full-year guidance
Boot Barn Holdings turned in a better-than-expected performance as it kicked off its new fiscal year, reporting significant gains in profitability and revenue.
The retailer of western and work-related footwear, apparel and accessories also raised its full-year outlook, citing its first-quarter performance and “continued strength” in its current quarter.
“With our four strategic initiatives delivering consistent results and the opportunity we have to double our store count, we remain confident in our ability to continue generating value for our shareholders over the long term,” stated CEO John Hazen, who was named CEO in May after having served as interim chief since October 2024.
Boot Barn, which opened 14 stores during the quarter, is on track to open 65 to 70 new stores this year in both legacy and new markets. It currently operates 475 stores in 49 states.
For its first quarter, which ended June 30, Boot Barn reported that its net income rose to $53.4 million, or $1.74 per share, compared to $38.9 million, or $1.26 per share, in the prior-year period. Analysts had expected earnings per share of $1.55.
Net sales rose 19.1% to $504.1 million, topping analysts estimates of $495 million. Same-store sales increased 9.4%, with retail store same-store sales increasing 9.5% and e-commerce same- store sales increasing 9.3%.
In the earnings statement, Hazen attributed the chain’s performance to broad-based demand “with strength across all major merchandise categories and geographies.” Boot Barn also improved its gross profit 210 basis points, led by robust merchandise margin expansion which, along with solid expense control, he said.
For the fiscal year ending March 28, 2026, Boot Barn now expects total sales of $2.10 billion to $2.18 billion, representing growth of 10% to 14% over fiscal year 2025, compared to its previous estimate of $2.15 billion. Earnings per share are expected to range from $5.80 to $6.70, compared to the earlier estimate of $5.50 to $6.40.
