BJ’s Wholesale Club expanding in Florida

BJ’s Wholesale Club is opening its 36th Florida location.

BJ’s Wholesale Club is adding to its footprint in the Sunshine State.

The Massachusetts-based membership warehouse club retailer will open a store in Davenport, Fla., on Feb.17. It will be BJ’s 36th location in the state, for a total of 236 U.S. clubs.

The Davenport club will have a BJ’s Gas location on-site and offer members everyday low fuel prices, with the opportunity to earn extra savings through BJ’s Fuel Saver Program.

The new club opening comes as BJ’s continues to grow its footprint beyond its Eastern home base. Last week, the company announced plans to open its first location in the state of Tennessee by the first half of the year. Located in La Vergne, some 20 miles southeast of downtown Nashville, the store will mark BJ’s 19th state of operation. Also, a location in Donough, Ga., is due to open later this month.

In May 2022, BJ’s debuted a new club concept, called BJ's market, in Warwick, R.I. At 43,000 sq. ft., the new format is about half the size of a full-sized BJ’s.

As with every BJ’s, the new locations will offer a variety of digital shopping options, including curbside pickup, in-club pickup, same-day delivery and standard delivery. When shopping in-club, members can use BJ’s to scan products as they shop to avoid the checkout line.

In other news, BJ’s is launching a new credit card program with Capital One and Mastercard—the BJ's One Mastercard program—at the end of February. The new cards are designed to deliver value back to members and enhance BJ’s top-tier memberships, the company said.

“We are always striving to be best in class when it comes to the value of our membership," said Werner. "Our partnership with Capital One and Mastercard will deliver unmatched rewards to our members with an exceptional customer service experience. Put simply, we expect this new program will be the best program in the retail space."
