BJ’s entering new state amid ongoing expansion; launches new credit card program
BJ’s Wholesale Club continues to grow its footprint beyond its Eastern home base.
The membership warehouse club retailer will open its first location in Tennessee by the first half of the year. Located in La Vergne, some 20 miles southeast of downtown Nashville, the store will mark BJ’s 19th state of operations.
In addition to the La Vergne opening, BJ’s plans to open clubs in Davenport, Fla., and McDonough, Ga., later this month.
“Our club openings in Davenport and McDonough are part of our continued growth within the Orlando and Atlanta markets, respectively,” said Bill Werner, executive VP, strategy and development, BJ’s Wholesale Club. “Additionally, the opening of our club in La Vergne represents the first of what will be multiple locations in the greater Nashville market.”
In May 2022, BJ’s, debuted a new club concept, called BJ's market, in Warwick, R.I. At 43,000 sq. ft., the new format is about half the size of a full-sized BJ’s.
As with every BJ’s, the new locations will offer a variety of digital shopping options, including curbside pickup, in-club pickup, same-day delivery and standard delivery. When shopping in-club, members can use BJ’s to scan products as they shop to avoid the checkout line.
In other news, BJ’s is launching a new credit card program with Capital One and Mastercard—the BJ's One Mastercard program—at the end of February. The new cards are designed to deliver value back to members and enhance BJ’s top-tier memberships, the company said.
The program will offer:
- In-Club Earnings: BJ’s One+ Mastercard (formerly BJ’s Perks Elite) cardholders will earn 5% back in rewards on most BJ’s purchases, while BJ’s One Mastercard (formerly BJ’s Perks Plus) cardholders will earn 3% back in rewards on these purchases. Members will be able to redeem their entire rewards balance once it reaches $10, up to the transaction total, and rewards never expire.
- Gas Discount: BJ’s One+ Mastercard cardholders will now receive 15 cents off per gallon at BJ’s Gas every time they use their credit card at the pump, while BJ’s One Mastercard cardholders will continue to receive 10 cents off per gallon at BJ’s Gas.
- Out-of-Club Earnings: Spending outside BJ’s will now be more rewarding, with BJ’s One+ Mastercard cardholders earning 2% back in rewards everywhere they use their card outside of the chain. BJ’s One Mastercard cardholders will now earn 1.5% back in rewards everywhere they use their card outside of BJ’s.

Headquartered in Marlborough, Mass., BJ’s operates 235 clubs and 164 BJ’s Gas locations in 18 states.
