BJ’s profits slide, revenues climb in Q3; two new stores to open

BJ's sales rose but profits slipped in the third quarter.

BJ’s Wholesale Club Holdings Inc. reported mixed third-quarter fiscal results as it prepares to open two new stores in the Deep South.

During the third quarter of fiscal 2025, BJ’s reported net income of $152 million, down 2 % from $155.7 million in the prior year quarter. Earnings per share fell 1.7% to $1.15 from $1.17. Net sales rose 5.8% year over year to $5.22 billion from $54.98 billion. Comparable store sales rose 1.1% including fuel and 1.8% without fuel.

Membership revenues soared almost 10% year over year to $127.3 million from roughly $115 million, driving total revenues up 5% to $5.35 billion from $5.1 billion.

“Our business has delivered solid results year to date in a volatile backdrop, which speaks to the power and relevance of our business model,” said Laura Felice, executive VP, CFO, BJ’s Wholesale Club. “We are narrowing our outlook for full year merchandise comparable club sales while increasing our outlook for adjusted earnings per share.”

The company provided an updated outlook for fiscal 2025 including:

  • Comparable store sales, excluding the impact of gasoline sales, to increase 2% to 3% year over year.
  • Adjusted earnings per share to range from $4.30 to $4.40.

In addition, BJ’s announced it will soon open two new locations in Mesquite, Tex., and Foley, Ala. The Mesquite store will mark the company’s fifth location in Texas, and the Foley store will be the second in Alabama. Each new store is expected to create between 100 and 150 jobs in its community.

The company is also relocating its Rotterdam, N.Y., store to a new location at I-88 and Route 7. Remaining fiscal 2025 openings include planned stores in Sumter, S.C.; Springfield, Mass.; Casselberry, Fla.; Selma, N.C.; Chattanooga, Tenn.; and Delray Beach, Fla.

Headquartered in Marlborough, Mass., BJ’s Wholesale Club Holdings Inc. currently operates 257 clubs and 194 BJ's Gas locations in 21 states.
